How to tell a lava from a amel

My friend has a 10 month old corn snake who was given to her as an amelanistic partial (well, more like sloppy) zigzag, however, when I took a better look at her (the snake) I think she may be lava. She doesn't have the normal amel colors and she's not a normal because I compared her to her normal sibling. How would I have a surefire way of figuring out if she is indeed a lava? I'll get pics posted later this week but are there any details I should look for? She's really red & white (and shades of) but hardly any orange and yellow. All help is appreciated!
Thanks
Nicole

Doesn't sound like a lava to me. If the corn's 10 months old and getting no color in her background, she may be a Candycane... post the pic and we can give a better answer.

As Nagah said, amels have red pupils since their retinas aren't pigmented. Lavas do have pigmented retinas, so their pupils are black. Here's a comparison collage of a lava compared to an amel motley. (Sorry, I don't own a regular amel.)

Lava from Amel

Thank you. I should have thought to look at the eyes. I'll get pics of her tomorrow and post them. Can you have a zigzag candy cane? Are they not a hybrid? Well, you will see pics and I REALLY appreciate the comparison photos! :) PRREETTYYY SNAKES!!!

Lava Corn Color

Lava Corns do not have any white on them. As hatchlings they may have some light gray coloration on them, but as adults I haven't seen any with white on them. The eyes will tell you if it is an amel or hypo of some type as mentioned above.

There are two hypos that do have white on them. Some Ultras have a little white on them and Strawberry hypos have a considerable amount of white on them, but still have normal eyes.
