How To Tell a Male From a Female By Tail

Can you really tell a male from a female by the look of his or her tail? Some people think Ari is a female, while others think he's a male. I know they say you need to probe the snake to make sure, but I am just wondering if anyone has any pictures to tell the difference. There is no bulge by his vent or on Buddy for that matter. I am not interested in breeding snakes, so it doesn't really matter to me one way or another. Just would like to know.... I know I can take him to a vet and I may do that one day. Just wondering is all.

Sorry I don't have any pics. But it has to do with the thickness of the tail just after the vent. Males tails tends to stay thicker for about 1/4 inch longer before tapering off. Females tend to taper quickly. Now saying that, it can be difficult to tell sometimes. That's why probing, an xray or popping are the preferred methods for corns.

Tadaaaa!

You really just need to probe or pop them. Lotem looked COMPLETELY like a male.. and is actually a female. @_@

And that's why probing. Popping when they are babies is the best way. But I believe the question referred to how can you tell by the tail, not which is best way of telling which sex they are.
