As some of you may know, I was very ill towards the end of last year and my Husband Ron was an absolute Angel, doing all the housework, cooking, cleaning, ironing, feeding and taking care of the animals etc, as well as taking wonderful care of me! To put this into better perspective, I should tell you he's disabled with a spinal disease, so most of this was a little harder for him than other able bodied people. ;)

So, I thought I should do something to show him how much I appreciated all he did and decided to buy him something he's wanted for quite while, a beautiful pair of Uromastyx Geyri! :D

We'll be bringing them home next week, but I did manage to grab a couple of pics to show them off, hope you like!

Oh and Ron is over the moon with them :)

How gorgeous, Susie! I am getting a male of the exact same thing next Saturday!! I have two threads about stuff I'm making for him- his viv is in General Chit Chat and his burrow is in DIY. How are you going to set them up???

I'm hoping I don't get ill like that again, but he did such a wonderful job, I think I'll stick with Ron taking care of me ;) No offence to you though!

Wow, congrats to you too then!! I'll go have a look for those threads in a minute :) (I've missed so much on here, I see you now have a dog! Congrats, she's looks gorgeous! :) )

We've got 4' x 2' x 2' viv with a spot/heat light one end for a basking spot, a full length, full spectrum UV fluorescent tube and will probably be putting a small ceramic heat bulb at the cooler end to keep the temp up there. I think we'll try bird seed for substrate and we got some floor tiles to make good basking spots and to make some low, flat hides. Just need to get a tub for making the artificial burrow and we should be all set, just keeping it simple to start with :) We're not going with live plants because we were told they would trash them rather quickly and probably try eating them, and I'm not sure what's toxic and what's not. Same for artificial, have read that they will try eating silk plants too, so I don't think that's a good idea. I'll try get some pics up when we're done! :)
 
It sounds like your set-up will be very similar to mine. I am sure glad I have a couple weeks to experiment with lights/temps before bringing him home! Ares is actually a gift from Captain Bogart (Joe). A very much appreciated gift. It just goes to show that, if you keep telling your friends at every opportunity how much you love and want such and such animal, sometimes you will be gifted with it! As I was also gifted with Jewel and Janine!

I've not seen anything in my reading so far about them being touchier, in fact I read they are one of the more tolerant/non-aggresive sub-species and that they acclimate better than some others, they will even tolerate cage mates better. We have handled them several times and they have been very docile and placid, but alert and interested in what's going on around them. When in the viv though, they are active little things, exploring all the time!

Thanks for the good luck wishes though, these will be a more challenging animal to keep, but we're looking forward to it :)

Wow, Sue!!! They look GREAT!!!! I've never been into Uro's... but after seeing them, WOW!

Congrats and KUDOS to your hubby too. He must be a GREAT guy.

Just don't tell my wife! JUST KIDDING! :p
