Enjoy!!

Oh yeah...she's really hungry...but at the same time....really fat....she is the size of a bit thicker than a 2 dollar coin in Canadian....real fat female....

I was thinking

About something. Not sure if I am right, or totally wrong or nuts!

But about the diet. I have some adults that are getting on the fatter side too so I was thinking about diets for snakes.

Now would it be better as Simon has to feed less mice i.e. one per month

or

would it be better to decrease prey size? Say instead of a fat adlut mouse, switch to a small adult mouse every 14 days.

I know that in humans when dieting its actually more effective to eat more time per day but less at a sitting than to eat less period. When you eat more times per day but a smaller meal you speed up your metabolizim. When you starve yourself your body goes into "starvation mode" and ends up saving everything as fat so to speak.

Of course snakes aren't people!

but would this be something that might help? thoughts?

bmm,

I never thought of that. But it might be true. But other than just sitting around waiting for food, my big fat female goes for a swim every 3-4days. This helps her excerise and at the same time burn fat and loose wait. That is why I think that not feeding her might help loose weight.

The reason why I don't think that feeding smaller prey items would help is because she is just WAY too fat...maybe once she gets to a decent size then your way of dieting is better and healthier...but in the meantime....I think that feeding once a month and doing excerise for her is good enough.....

thanks for your idea though....
I do really wonder if your way is actually healthier....does anyone out there know?

hmm

I hope someone else can shed some light on that....not sure if it would be healthier or not myself.

As for other activities I have been planning to set up a large tank with branches, sticks etc and place my adults in it for a few hours once or twice a week for some exercise.

My only problem is a spray cleaning solution. You'd be putting in new snakes all the time so you would want to clean it after each use of course. But pulling the entire thing apart each and every time doesn't really make it easy to use that often. Is there something that can be sprayed safely into a tank to clean it with a quick wipe down? anyone know of a product.

sorry its off topic.
