Well since the adult female royal has not eaten for weeks and weeks now she is becoming very skinny. I have tried everything possible to feed with no luck.

I have just put out a mouse to warm up and then i am going to assist feed it to her.

I really really do not like doing this to adults because every time i have ever done this in the past i ether end up getting bitten or constricted.

If any of you have ever been bitten by an adult BP you will understand that it is not very nice.

Dang the things we do to make our pets happy.

Ohh just thought...... I will get my camera out for it so i can get a shot of the bite if i get one lol.

How long is weeks and weeks, it's quite normal for a BP to go long lenghts of time with out feeding. My BP went 10 weeks without feeding this time last year. I would really leave assist feeding as a last resort.

My hubby had a adult ball when he was younger and he said it would go 9 or 10 months sometimes in between feedings. I don't know if its good for them but I know it is somewhat common. We have a year and half old ball and she's ravenous everytime we put a fuzzy in there and she won't eat dead mice though. She's bitten me once and even at that young age its not fun lol... and I'm really new at this and this was the first time I've been bitten by a snake before. It was really weird too because I thought they had two fangs but I was bleeding from like 6 different places in one bite lol... weird lol...

Good luck on the feeding but I wouldn't worry too much for now... definitely look into all the replies you get back on this one though. I'm no expert by no means...

Lil. :)

Its been months.

She cant go much longer because she is very ill. Some you may remember that she is the one of the burns all over and even the vet said there is no hope.

i tried 3 times last night to assizst feed an every time just spat it out.

I am about to go to a pet shop and pick up 2 LIVE gurbals and try that.

To em this is the last resort becuase IF she eats she may never go back to F/T, Plus i dont really like the idea of an animal killing another in my house.I think its wrong but it must be done.

Well i really hope that she eats a live mouse. Lots of us dont like the idea of feeding live mice, but if it meant keeping one of my snakes alive, id do it in a instant. Good luck.

Safe husbandry concerns aside, how can you say it's wrong for one animal to kill another in your house? How does being in your house make a difference to the prey? Dead is dead. Snakes eat rodents.

When you assist feed, her, once you get it in her mouth, then what? If I have problems, I take a blunt stick, like a chopstick, and gently push the prey pretty far back, so the entire item is well back into the mouth, then hold the snake's mouth shut, mid-head, with one hand and gently massage the throat with the other. If I suspect the snake is going to regurge it back up the second I put her down, I hold her quietly for a few minutes until the prey is way down into the stomach and the snake is relaxed and not frightened.

Altho i agree with you, its more to do with having it on my conscience knowing i purposely killed a living thing quite brutally.

I honestly think you're looking at it from the wrong direction. If you took a mouse and started snipping off parts or skinning it alive, THAT's brutal. Harming any animal purely for the sake of inflicting the harm, THAT's brutal. But that's NOT what we're talking about here. We're talking about providing nutritious food for your snake and giving it the best possible chance of survival.

There is a difference in the immediate 'intimacy' of the act, but when you get down to it, there's no difference between feeding your BP live, and buying a F/T for him. Or for you buing a chicken, cut of beef or a fish. In the end, a living creature died so that you can consume it (or a part thereof). I'm having to feed Butter live, and if anything, I feel pretty good about it. I know that these mice are well cared for and are healthy and warm and stimulated while in my care. That they end up being Butter's Dinner doesn't detract from the fact that they had a good life up to that point, does it?
