I received my first bite from my CB snakes, and it was not from the snake I was expecting!
I was changing water dishes and had picked Milkshake (my Pueblan milk) up to spot clean a poopy area. Put him back and then went on to Elliot, who I handle last due to him having that bulge (that has disappeared and he has gone on to eating for me again, go figure). I considered that I had not washed my hands of snake scent before picking him up to change his paper towel, but figured that since he's a not an enthusiastic eater (he doesn't appear interested in the smell of f/t mice and has a poor track record of eating), that it wouldn't be an issue. At first, it wasn't. Then he started to open his mouth, not quite into a yawn, as he slithered through my hands. Then he ever so gently put his tiny little mouth on my index finger and tasted me, let go, and tried another spot. I felt one tiny little tooth! He was only 15 grams the last time I weighed him, and he isn't spazzy or musky like my other Cal king, Sherlock. I had assumed that Sherlock would give me my first bite.
He was just so gentlemanly about the bites, and he realized it wasn't food but he was still so interested in smelling my fingers until I put him back. It's good to know he's feeling better and feeling like a voracious kingsnake who can't resist the smell of food!
My brother and his wife were here and I was acting so excited about his behavior ... the looks they were giving me were pretty funny.
