Hi, I have a young male snow corn and I'm absolutely in love with the Miami morphs!! I was wondering about the genetics and what I would get if i breed the snow corn with the miami? and the different types of miami? sorry im a newb to corns and breeding and wont be breeding for awhile but ive been reading up and i want to do more studying so anyhelp will be wonderful!! THANK YOU!!

Brandon

If you bred a Snow (Amel+Anery) to a Miami (Normal, locality), you'll get Normals het for Amel and Anery. That's assuming both parents don't have hidden hets. :}

alright! im trying to figure out the nicest and sharpest mate for the snow that will come out with the widest range of babies i guess!! Lol so i have to start doing more research!!

any ideas?

Google "corn calculator" & you will find the genetic calculator & can fool around with it.

If you want a variety, I'd go for a normal het snow. You will get normals, amels, anery, and snow.

Or breed to an Ultramel het anery. You will get amels, ultramels, snows, and ultramel anerys.

A rule of thumb for most morphs is that if you want a certain morph in the offspring, then BOTH parents need to have at least one recessive allele for that trait. What this esentially means is that both the parents either have to be visually showing the trait, or has to have the trait in het form.

Therefore, for a snow (amel and anery) with no hets, the only possible combinations you can get in any offspring of that snake (depending on what it is bred to) are amel and anery combinations (ultramel being included as an amel combination). Any other trait (X) bred to the snow will not produce that trait (X). Lavender to snow will not produce any lavenders. Caramel to snow will not produce any caramels. etc... *Unless* the snow is het for lavender, or caramel, etc...

thank you so much!! damn i wish i knew all this when i got my snow!! I love him!! Oh well just need more snakes then :D

thank you so much!!

The best book ever about cornsnake morphs 2010 edition went on sale today!

http://cornguide.com/the guide.php

It will teach you how to figure out genetics by yourself. it has tons of pics of all the morphs. Excellent book! I can't wait, every year, for the new edition! And it's great to get a new one each year because new morphs are always turning up!

Also, if you (bdisilvestro) get this and are really interested in learning how genetics work, I'd recommend the "Genetics for Herpers" book along with it. I haven't read it myself, but I hear it is good for learning.
