I'm getting a ball python!

I'm very excited to be getting my first ball python very soon! Probably monday I'll be meeting an in-town breeder to pick up a 2 month old pastel female (and for only $50). The breeder decided to give me such a great deal because it's gotten too cold for her to ship out this winter, and she wanted to cut down on the number of mouths she had to feed. Since I have more snake experience than most people who responded to her add, she chose me as the lucky winner!

She's only about 150 grams, but she's so pretty. I'll include a picture of what she looks like (the breeder's photo, not mine).

I just got done setting up her tank today. It's a 35 gallon for now, I'll eventually have to update her but in the mean time it'll work well. It's cluttered because she's still a baby and ball pythons are pretty shy.

I actually got chewed out by a member on a different forum telling me my setup was not suitable for a ball python and that it would be stressed and not eat because it was *too* cluttered. So I'm a little irritated, but I've done my research and think it's do just fine!

I'm using cypress mulch and sphagnum moss to keep the humidity up. She does have an oversized half log hide in there, but it's filled with substrate and moss so it should be nice a cozy!

Anyway, I bought two small blue plastic bowls and cut an opening in them to make small secure hides. The blue plastic looked ugly, so I covered them in moss, and that why you can't see them in the picture, but they're in there :)

She also has a UTH regulated by a thermostat of course. (The person who criticized me didn't know the difference between a thermostat and a thermometer so I shouldn't be too offended I guess...)

Anyway, I can't wait to get her settled in, fed, and take hundreds of photos of her!

Nice!

You don't find snakes just sitting out in he open in the wild. She will love all the stuff to hide in.

Awesome! Looks like a sweet vive. If you notice she's a little shy, you can also "black out" 3 sides of the tank (I just use paper to cover mine). I'm sure you're already aware, but just remember to have the UTH set at about 90F, and the ambient air should be around 80F and NEVER drop below 75f! (You can add a heat bulb if you need to, but this may dry out the tank a bit). It sounds like you've done a lot of research though, so don't mind me ;)

Just a question, you say it's an "old female", but only 150g? Doesn't sound right to me. My hatchling. who is a couple of months old, is 200g :p but anywho GOOD LUCK!

I really wish there was an edit button. I missed reading a line, where you said "2 month old". My apologies!
:)

Hehe I said "2 month old female" definitely not old! She's just a baby.

Thanks for the advice and input though :) I do have a UTH hooked to a thermostat, set at 90*F. It's one of those hydrofarm ones so it varied a few degrees but generally stays between 87-92*F.

I recently redid the screen-top using a aluminum foil/duct tape method which was suggested by some ball python keepers. It's really helping to keep the humidity and ambient temps up a bit. Maybe some people can find it useful on their corn tanks too!
