Interesting new wildlife app for kids being developed...

by the hubby of one of our own members, JoannaD. The reason I became aware of it is because the developer (Paul Michaels) is the same person who produced my 2 snake sexing videos that so many of you have probably seen. So when I heard about the new project, I was excited to see what it is all about.

Seems like this is a meeting of several different methods to keep kids engaged while they learn about wildlife. It includes stories in graphic novel form as well as related games, and even a chance to involve creativity by making up their own dialogue. The stories are based on real life biologists and their field work. Sounds like an exciting way to get kids "behind the scenes" while using technology and the kind of platforms that they enjoy.

Take a look for yourself, and watch the video in which Paul explains the project here: http://www.wildrz.com/

He only has until about Christmas to raise funds to get it off the ground. So if you like it, please share it on FB or other forums, or you can even support it yourself - info is on the site.

I would love to be able to get this for some of my nephews and nieces for Christmas. Guess it won't be this year yet, but maybe next year.

I am hoping that Joanna or Paul will come to answer any questions if there are any.

Let me know what you think, since I don't have kids of my own and I don't own an iPad, either, lol!

Thanks for posting Kathy!

I am pretty sure you can ask Paul questions through that site but I am happy to pass on any questions anyone has.

He has been working trying to make this project a reality for a long time and this might be his last chance.

All of the stories are based on true life biologists or people trying to save wildlife in their local communities. The first story is about turtles in MA and he has others planned for the red sided garter snakes of Manitoba and bats in Austin.

The more the word is spread around the more likely it is he will reach his goal and this will be a reality.

Thanks Tavia. We really hope they make the money as well. They just need people to keep passing the word around and donate!

This is so cool! Thanks for posting this. I love the idea, and I wish you guys the best success with this. It's so important to teach children about wildlife, and this is such a brilliant way of doing it.

Thanks - I really hope more people feel this way. Paul has worked so long and hard on this!

I'm going to give this a bump. Every little bit counts - even linking this on your facebook pages or tweeting about it.

This is an all or nothing deal. If they do not make their goal they do not get a penny and none of the people who donated get charged.

Thanks!

Paul has worked long and hard to make this project a reality. The money goes toward the programming of the app, drawing and coloring the graphic novel and other parts that go into making this a reality.

Paul donated his time to make Kathy Love's popping and probing videos for the corn snake community because I asked him to. If everyone who has ever looked at those videos or recommended them, contributed even just a dollar he would be able to make his goal and the project would be funded.

Thanks for looking!

This is fantastic!! I am one of those that gained knowledge from Kathy's videos :) I am so hopeing that yous can reach your goal! How do I link this to my FB account?? I will do so in a heartbeat! I will also be checking my monies and see if I can contribute! This is such a worthy cause! I have a son who is in high school and they use a lot of things like this for his classes. (he is a high functioning autistic) we dont have an Ipad at home but I know he would love to have this at school and his class mates as well! I really want to help you spread the word if I can! :)

Thanks!!!

There is a Wildrz Facebook page that you can like and share.
