Who are you to call someone a "no-name" in this hobby/business? Just because you haven't heard of him makes him a "no-name"? Just because he is not a member of this forum (I actually think he may be) makes him a "no-name"? He may have more experience then what you are giving him credit for. If you are so worried by questioning his credentials why don't you E-mail him and find out what he knows. He might just enlighten you by giving you some insight as to his knowledge of the hobby/business. Ask him how he came about producing these animals. Ask him how he started this project. Ask to see pictures of the parents. Ask to see pictures of the entire clutch. This might/will be a better approach to figuring out whether the animals he is selling are in fact Tesseras. Oh yeah, almost forgot, start your E-mail off with "Hey, Mr. No-name, can I ask you a few questions about the Tesseras you are selling?" and see how far that gets you.
Seriously, who the hell are you to question anyone's experience in this hobby/business when you yourself have little to none.

That guy is not a no-name. He is better known for his ball pythons and dabbles in other snake types. It's not surprising to see the tessera gene in other places. Like here. The only thing that concerned me was the price. They are listed low, but the way things are with the hobby and the economy I'm not surprised to see animals unloaded for lower prices to clear space for 2010 hatchlings.

I'm not saying he's not a good breeder or that he has no experience in what he's doing, I'm saying his name/website weren't ones that are familiar to me and I've been doing enough window shopping and BOI-reading over the past few months to recognize when someone is big and has a rep that shows that and when someone is unknown enough that you should question them before dropping half a grand on an animal that may or may not be what they claim. I have every right to wonder about his reputation as a seller if I've never met him before or seen anything on him.

EDIT: I also find it interesting that you'll jump on me about this guy, who I assume is your friend for you to get so up in arms about defending him, but just one forum over Jeff Mohr, someone who DOES have a great deal of experience in this hobby, said the exact same thing. http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1090755&postcount=24 Not that I want to drag Jeff into this, of course, just found it interesting.

First off...I am not a HUGE breeder and I DO deal with the "smaller" breeders and they are ALL top quality people producing top quality animals. I have Love stock, SMR stock, VMS stock, as well as Serpenco stock, but I also have others as well that are just as good as those from the so called "big" breeders. Would you like their names and would you just bypass them because they are not BIG? How are you measuring someone's reputation? We all know that the rep points here at CS.com are NOT all given for being a reputable breeder. (Interesting how we can not longer see individual rep points isnt it?) You came off as if you were judging this "no named" breeder and you, yourself, said you did not know who it was.

NO, Jay does NOT know Chad of Chad Gray Reptiles. We have never had any dealings with him. If he is less than upstanding, that's on that person. We do not have first hand knowledge of him or his practices. I think Jay just wanted you to see how it looked when you wrote "no named" as if this person was a nobody. Only if you know someone to some degree should you even think about calling them a nobody. I have sat and read tons of threads and posts over the years and I have my thoughts on a few I have not come to know better. You will never find me passing those ones over just because I formed an option without just cause. I have read some of your replies and I can tell you are a strong willed woman with thoughts of her own but I have not crossed you off my list as a person I would talk to or purchase from.

As for Jeff Mohr, oh yeah, I have his stock too; is very particular about what he buys and what he sells. IF I was into this morph of corn, I would be questioning the breeder too. I would do as Stephen and others have suggested, do ones research first, especially with a "new" morph and this one is interesting...F1 from the get go...WOW. I dont know if I would want to be putting the Tessera gene into all my stock, but I have my own personal thoughts on it. Yet who am I do judge someone who does?

I would pay top dollar for certain animals from certain breeders, but if I had the chance to purchase the same genes from someone else for a much cheaper price, I just might do it. Of course, I do have my standards and I do know what kinds of questions to ask and I do know who I would ask an opinion from.

"PJ", if you glance in my signature you'll find my name. I don't have a problem with you or anyone in particular... if I come off as argumentative with one particular person at any time it's not a grudge against them, just disagreement with their post. I wouldn't refuse to deal with someone simply because I don't know them. I would, however, put in an inquiry at the BOI and do a quick google search to see if they've had good, bad, or any experiences with previous customers. Bad obviously would turn me away from them; good would obviously make me feel better about purchasing from them. It wouldn't matter to me how many people here look up to Kathy Love, Rich Zuchowski, Don Soderberg, or any other breeder in the business, big or small, are if I'd never heard of them before unless I did a little research, first. That's just smart business and a great deal of money and heartache in the reptile community would've been saved had more people known about resources like the BOI. Price is a huge red flag to me, regardless of whether it's a personal choice of the seller... I'm sorry, but if you were selling me a new, 2010 car for $1,000 when it usually goes for $20,000, I'd be suspicious.

Lexi, glad to know you are as smart as you come off! Sorry for not noticing your name in your signature.

It would be interesting to see how/if this breeder ever shows pictures of his breeders and maybe who he purchased them from. No matter how it turns out, that snow is a very sweet looking male "snow". But again, it is just my personal opinion and I like the messy patterns and the sides of a Tessera are real nice.

So with the topic...anyone hear back from Chad Gray as to the parents of that male snow?
