Introducing the foster kittens of 2014!

Shiari

Blutterer
Brace yourselves; kitten season is coming.

I've taken on my first litter, a pair of 3-weekers who finally have accepted the bottle. And so, pictures!

I would like to introduce you first to the male of the pair, Cilantro.

He was the first one to take to the bottle, is the larger kitten, and definitely the more demanding of the duo. His meow is LOUD. He's also a greedy sod with the bottle and eats a ton.

He has a few quirks though. One of which is to slide partly down my leg during feeding time so as to wedge himself in odd positions.

His significantly smaller sister is Chives. She has a pretty, dainty 'mew!' at meal times, unlike her brother's obnoxious 'MEEEEEEEEEEEE!' And that pretty, dainty mew goes great with her pretty, dainty self.

One thing she is certainly not lacking in is the hair department. I've raised up several medium-haired kittens, and none of them had hair as long as her at this age. She will have long flowing fur methinks.

Another thing she is not lacking in is 'tude. She definitely fits the idea of "tiny and fierce". As proof, here she is biting the ever loving bejebus out of her brother.

So there we are. An introduction to the first of my 2014 fosters. I will update this thread with more photos of Cilantro and Chives, as well as all future fosters I get suckered into. And considering I work at a humane society... I expect there will be a LOT.

I love hand-raised kitties (as my former vet commented about our now RIP pair, they don't quite know they're cats). I have two other rescues, but both of them were older and they're just not the same as the hand-raised babies that were bonded to people so much more closely.

I miss fostering...

Oh, SO cute, and good for you on fostering! It is one of the best feelings (you are helping these helpless little creatures in their first stages of life) and one of the most mixed-emotions, giving them to their new family. Last summer I had to take two fosters back after two years, they had gone to my best friend's twin sister but she was SO allergic that when she brought them back you wouldn't know they were twins anymore. She did so good with them for two years, but her health was so bad from the allergies I told her I would take them back.

Cilantro and Chives started eating on their own, and so have gone home with a different fosterer. As a 'reward', I have taken on 4 one-day-old kittens. Please meet Jicama, Potato, Yam and Turnip.

So cute! My family has had one cat for 15 years, and she's starting to get old and I've been really craving getting a kitten lately.

BEE-BEES!!!

Turnip! My friend asked his son and daughter to name their kittens, they are now Turnip and Shovel. These came from 2 and 3 year old kids, but I like your theme!

Massive photo upload! Photos are from 2 days ago and today. :3

This is what feeding time looks like; a frenzied wave of mewing fur all 100% certain that my hand = food. It makes getting photos of all of them together really hard, but I managed a couple.

This was taken right after they had all eaten and decided my lap was a great place for a nap.

Then Jicama decided he was still a little hungry and climbed up to my knee, leaving his brother and sisters all snuggled down.

Jicama tends to be very... uhm... insistent about his level of hunger.

The best eater of all, however, is definitely the little runt Yam.

And... Yam Can Sit! (can't help it.... Yan Can Cook goes through my head every time...)

Potato and Turnip to follow!

Potato has given me some of the sweetest photos, though he's quite the screamer at feeding time.

I mean, just look at this...

I don't even.... D'AWWWWWWW........

Turnip is still an idiot about the bottle and we fight every feeding about the requirement of opening her mouth in order for her to eat. But I win every time.

But she gave me the cutest photo of all the ones I took today.... I could snuggle her forever!

Thanks for looking! There will be yet more photos in another 4 of 5 days, hopefully with open kitten eyes!
