About a month and change ago, I recieved an email from a local publishing company asking if I would like to have my name put on their freelance photographers list for possible future publication in their magazines. Of course, I jumped at the chance, not really expecting much, but hoping to get some decent assignments, and maybe...with a little luck...someday a published photo...

Well, my first assignment was Eastern Sierra Wildlife. How lucky could I get? So I did what comes naturally, and sent along 3 or 4 photos of various local snakes I have taken. I still wasn't expecting very much...

Today...I got an email requesting my mailing address so that they can send me payment for the photos they are going to use! They are, evidently, publishing at least one of my photos in the upcoming issue of Mammoth Sierra Magazine.

So I guess that means I am officially a "professional photographer". You have no idea how laughable that concept really is to me. But hey...I'll take an extra couple hundred a month for submitting pictures I would take anyhow. Who wouldn't?

Thanks for all the support you guys have shown me. It's nice to get some of the unbiased input that I have gotten from sharing my shots here.

Nice job, I may have to get you to send me a copy of that magazine...lol.
Just remember, don't let it become a "job"... lol

Congrats Chris! It's a great feeling when people are willing to pay money for your photographs. It's the ultimate compliment and realisation of all the hard work we put in!

Congratulations! Your photography is more than good enough, so I am glad folks other than here see that & are willing to pay for it. Tell ya what -- when people talk about you in the same sentence as Ansel Adams, you'll give us some calendars? LOL. Seriously, your photographs are pro quality so I am glad you are getting paid for them!

Congrats... Make sure you let us know which issue your picture(s) will be in so we can look for them. :)

It(they?) will be in the next issue. I'm not sure exactly when it comes out, but I will post a link and the issue number when I find out...

Oh my! You're living MY dream! LOL! Congratulations! I think that's a VERY impressive accomplishment.

It's been a dream of mine for a loooooong time. I used to drool over coffee table books featuring the f/64 Group, and I still spend countless hours with National Geographic and Outdoor Photographer magazines. This is a smaller, local magazine, but...it's still a magazine...and it is very popular among visitors to the area...

That's great news Chris! Congratulations, your pictures are definitely well deserved of recognition.

green with envy! Congrats!!! That is one of the things I will take up after the kids are older... love photography!

Congratulations Chris. I do like you work. I hope this blossoms for you.

Just don't forget us little people latter!!! LOL

Congrats Chris! I just hope you remember all us little people that egged you on, when you reach the big time! ;)

CONGRATULATIONS!

You have put a lot of effort into taking cool photos - and it shows! You deserve some professional recognition beyond the confines of CS, lol!

Thanks, everyone, for the congratulations. I don't know for sure which photo is being published, but it is one of these three--

panamintbest1.jpg

Gravid Panamint near Eureka Valley in Death Valley National Park

panamint3.jpg

Juvenile Panamint from near Deep Springs Valley in the Inyo/White Mountains

sidewinder1.jpg

Mojave Desert Sidewinder from southern Inyo County

I would guess it is one of the Panamint pictures, but I'm really not sure...
