Keep America Stupid: A Political Agenda.

Outcast

ATPSS
In order to "save" us from our growing debt, instead of looking to the highest paid government offices, our wonderful congress and president, have decided to attack our military, our vets, and now our colleges.
I call this the Keep America Stupid campaign.
My funding for school has already been touched by our all knowing government, so why not the other routes that I go to try and be able to afford to pay my bills and extra curricular activities too...
Here is where he is eying to cut Pell Grants. http://host.madison.com/ct/news/loc...cle_5dc8c3fa-37a2-11e0-9047-001cc4c002e0.html Since my GI bill has been tampered with, I was hoping to catch my bills up with my Pell grants... But, not with this administration... It looks like debt is the key with these guys... Keep America in Debt, and Keep its people in Debt, starting with those who are in college....

Also, I have learned that Federal Student Loans, will now accrue interest while the student is still in school. The way it was is that the interest would not accrue until you stopped attending school.
This site states that "Despite the Obama administration's overt and covert attempts at protecting education and research from the government's drastic measures...".

All in all, I can say that I am extremely disappointed in the current administrations way of "saving" money. Instead of going after big pay checks of career politicians, they are going after people who have fought for our country, and those who are trying to do their best to go through school.

Living through it right now, I can say that getting out of the military and trying to go to school full time, is one of the most financially difficult things that I have ever been through. I would go so far as to say that this could possibly be the most difficult thing I will ever have to go through, so having the government come in and say they are saving the country by paying off a debt that they accrued, and by the way, we are taking the money we have been giving you.... It really gets me upset. Seeing as how there are some months that my wife and I can barely afford to eat... Especially now that my GI bill has been hit.

This is just my ramblings, I will be happy to know your opinions, guys and gals.

Well first off, thank you for serving. We owe pretty much everything we have to the sacrifices our veterans and active military personel have made and it quite honestly pisses me off any time their compensation is cut back or cut off. I hope things turn around for you Aaron, good luck.

Mitch

I have been trying to stay out of the political threads but I do have this to say...

Our political leaders could care less about you or me and those like you who have served our country Outcast. They would rather cut money from needed programs then their own greedy pockets. Our government is no longer of the people. A wise statement I have heard before from different places "A people should not fear its government, but the government should fear its people" is a wise statement, and in our current time I would have to say that our government could care less about its people. All it cares about is helping big companies that put money in their pockets. I think its Time America wakes up and realizes what its government is doing to its people.

Ahh, America. I'm not surprised, not amused anymore, but just... "meh". I don't expect any less, any more.

Let's see, where do I move... Canada or Germany...

But of course. When the government gets pressured to tighten their belts, they are going to blame US as the cause of their problems. WE have to sacrifice for their malfeasance. So of course they are going to cut back the programs that would hurt us the most so we will beg them to resume taxing us.

Just like with Social Security. They've been raking in the money for decades and NEVER salted the money away like they should have with all the surplus funds. They just spent it like it was just another tax. Now that the funds will run dry, they are blaming US as the problem. They built that ponzi scheme knowing how it could only work with an increasing population. Unless most people died before reaching retirement age, of course....

That is why they want to take over health care... They could save a whole lot of money if they killed us off before we got to Social Security age.... <this is just a joke of course...

Social Security is the elephant in the room. Something HAS to be done with it, and no one has the hootspah.
As far as the military, I would like to see it cut. But ONLY as far as bring troops home stationed in countries we have no business in. We don't need out troops scattered worldwide, but dammit take care of them!!!!!

Didn't we just throw Madoff in jail for his ponzi scheme? Maybe he needs say a few hundred political neighbors in his cell block!

Would be nice but the politicians that decided that Americans are too stupid to plan for their own retirements (and had wayy better things to do with this new windfall) are long-ago dead I think.

As a vet (USN, '80 - '92 including Beirut in '83-84 and that war everyone lovingly referred to as Desert Storm, but which I call Gulf War I) I'm appalled that the G.I. bill has been hit! Shameful, espescially when you look at how much is spent on corporate subsidies (oil, etc). I hope you make it through school o.k. Might take getting a summer job to make ends meet, but whatever it takes, just like in the military, right?

Which branch btw? Just curious. I have a couple buddies who just came back (thank the gods!) from Afghanistan where they were Navy Corpsmen working with the Marines.

I was Air Force, EOD. I worked closely with every branch, as well as the Canadians and Brits on a few missions.

I agree with your whole post and manly THIS....

All in all, I can say that I am extremely disappointed in the current administrations way of "saving" money. Instead of going after big pay checks of career politicians,..........

That is where the cut should start!!!!!

You know, The other day I got an automated email from one of my "representatives". I decided to send him one back, asking why they were going after my GI bill, and school funding, instead of cutting their own pay or selling off a couple of their own houses, bought with tax payer money....

That was a week ago, still no reply...lol

I wonder if blaming anyone but ourselves will be productive?

How many of you voted for the very people you now feel are ripping you off?

If you did, then aren't YOU the responsible party?

How many of you have complained here, or elsewhere internet-wise, but have done NOTHING else?

If you haven't, then aren't YOU the responsible party?

How long have the crooks been running things? It's not a recent development.

I too think it's a lousy thing to do to our Vets and students and old people and those who just can't take care of themselves while those who need nothing continue to reap benefits not available to the general population.

Until the PEOPLE, you know, you and me and all the rest of us, DO something about the outrageous perks elected officials and big money get, do you REALLY think those people are going to voluntarily give up ANYTHING? Especially money? Let's look at history. Ever see congress take a pay cut? How about big oil? Billions and billions in profits and why again are they getting tax breaks?

We all know that anyone of us could go on forever about this UNTIL we actually stop bitching and start doing.

I don't know what to do, but I know something needs to be done. This system is broken and the guys running it now aren't, seemingly, able to fix it.

Obama is talking as I type. Maybe hope didn't die, just went into a coma for a bit. Maybe it can be revived. Maybe they will make the cuts that us regular folks can see need to be made.

Maybe pigs will fly.

I'll let you know if I see any wing-ed bacon.

We have alot of political leaders I did NOT vote for, and second almost all of them who run for office now days are crooked from the get go. The problem is to many people go buy what they say on tv and dont actually looker deeper into what these people running for office have actually done in the past, like what they voted for what they voted against what they have pushed and denied. Fore Example one of my senators is as crooked as they come and I believe the allection was even rigged and so do many other alaskans but when it was taken to court it was pretty much ignored because she has her hands in big money. The problem is so many politicians now days have pockets so deep they can buy their way in and out of things.

But until the PEOPLE of america as a whole wake up and tell their government "NO you will not rape us any more" then it will continue to happen and get worse.

The problem is that people are too lazy to educate themselves. It seems that whoever yells the loudest is right in our society. Spend 50 million on TV ads saying that an independent study concluded that eating green apples shortens your life, and most people would stop buying green apples. Spend 100 million on ads saying you are honest and tired of big government, and you help old ladies across the street, and no matter what kind of scumbag you are, or how unknown you are, you'll be the next president...as long as you make the right promises to big oil, pharmacuticals (sp?), and the unions.

Well, that, and the media has to like you. If the media does not like you forget it.

And by Like I Think "who has the deepest pockets".

Not only that...the media thrives on grief, drama and bad news. They want people down and out, they want news stories. They want to fight for "causes". Most media is liberal. Most media loathes conservatives. (just my opinion).
What do we remember Dan Quayle for?
