King care anyone?

Howdy Folks!
I will be getting a beautiful king snake pair next week. I assume their husbandry is about the same as corns and garters (of course garters are a little diff), but I was wondering if any of you know about there specific needs. I welcome any advice.
Cheers!

Cool. You'll have to post pics when you get them. I've kept getulus subspecies before, and I have two now. I've alway kept them under the exact same conditions as my corns, and never had a problem. I find them to be easier to care for than corns in that they seem less "delicate", especially in terms of food refusals and regurges. Come to think of it, I've never seen a regurge from any king I've owned. :shrugs:

I'll try to add the pics...
The blk/wht is the girl (Psyche), the brwn/wht is the male (Eros.

Nice pair of Calis. They look great.

One more thing on husbandry. I'm sure you've figured this out, but kings really shouldn't be kept together. In my evil youth, I cohabitated corns, but never even thought about putting two kings together.

with a name like eros, I'd call the female agape..... in other words, lust and love :shrugs: just my opinion, really doesnt matter..

oh, and I forgot, beautiful lookin snakes. If I ever find a florida king down here I plan on keeping it assuming it isn't even close to full grown, maybe a yearling or hatchling... and that it shows no signs of any problems.. I'll buy a breeding pair after I get my corn breeding projects underway in atleast a year..

i keep my king in the set up below and the temps are 80-86 o the warm side and 73-78 or so on the cool side shes a greate lil snake too and she always eats without fail and never regurged

Thanks everyone!

Greeling - Really neat pattern on your king! What's her name?

I have another question...
Do kings need any specialized lighting? I figure they don't, but I just want to make sure.

Nice Calis, Kimberly! I think you will really enjoy them!

I want to mention something strange, but my adult Calis are pickier than most of my corns! They want live mice most of the time. They will not eat rats (or malformed corn hatchlings, for that matter). I mention this because I don't want you to be surprised if they are the "garbage disposals" that everyone says they should be. ;)

Kings do not need special lighting. They can be kept just like your corns!

thanks yours are very nice too ^__^ and her names Lydia shes very sweet but if she thinks shes going to be fed watch out :sidestep:

Kimberly - I just noticed you have a snake listed in your signature as 1.0 orangey. Is that the male I sent to you? If so, he is a normal motley ;)

Hi Terri!
Yes, I need to change that on my sig... he is just so orangey though! I named him Fox. For everyone else, here's his pic. I bought three sweeties from Terri and they're wonderful. The Ghost did try an escape and she got stuck! I think it was more dramatic for me than her. She is great now and in a new tank. Here's fox (from Terri's pick of him).

LOL...he is a nice color, huh? I am glad you like them!

And I am glad the ghost did not manage to get out!

Terri, you must have finicky Cali's then. Both of mine eat anything I've offered them. Non-feeding hatchlings, cornsnake slugs, mice, rat pinks. :shrugs:

Although my deformed one likes smaller items for obvious reasons.

But as everyone else had said, they're just the same care as corns. They do seem a bit more hardy in the food/digestion department at times.

A word of warning, expect to get tagged or musked at some point Kimberly, both of mine bite like the dickens. :awcrap:

Supposedly the Florida kings are less likely to misbehave. But I've yet to see one I like the looks of compared to the crisp black and white of the Cali's.

I guess...although I think I'd take a picky eater over a biter! Both of my adults are very sweet. And they aren't extremely picky...at least they eat rodents :) The funny thing is that I've hardly gotten any difficult feeder babies from these two. Most ot the babies will eat anything.
:shrugs:

I also bought a female motley normal, from the guy selling me the kings, that MAYBE one day I can breed with Fox. (I haven't decided whether I'm ever going to breed snakes yet, but that is at least a couple of years off.) Her name will of be Vixen.

Oops! Here is the baby pic. Another pic of her, that I've had trouble uploading is orangey, but not as orange as Fox.

Update: The kings seem fairly easy to take care of but...
Man, their poos stink, or maybe they are musking a little since they are new. Yesterday I fed my female king. She was "on the hunt" and really wanted my hand! Not the bamboo tongs, or the mouse they were holding; she was like a cobra following my hand. Okay, so she is a little aggressive. The male has been sweet and calm, but then again he is in blue... :sidestep:
