KING CORN?

Hi, I just got back from San Diego where they had a good size "Reptile Expo"
I ended up buying, what the breeder called and King-Corn. She is a very beautiful Hybrid and I bought her because she had such a pleasent disposition and she looked great! I got her home and a friend of mine said that he read somewhere that King-Corn mix comes out sterile, and there's no chance to breed them to any other snake, even another King-Corn. I was wondering if anyone else out there has had any experience, or knows anyone who might have known about this? I bought her to mate with my Lava Corn.
Also, when I went to feed her, she acted like she hadn't eaten in months. I've never had a Kingsnake before, she was a very aggressive hunter when I dropped in the first mouse, which she ate it in like 30 seconds. I gave her two more after that and she was still looking for more!
This is a very beautiful King_Corn with a wonderful pattern to her. Reminds me of a spotted Leopard !

No personal experience but a quick look around google confirms that they are not mules. Breeding should be possible, although many die-hard corn fans will not recommend it because spreading hybrids dilutes the general pool of pure corn genes. At least make it clear if you distribute any hatchlings that they're hybrids, not pure corns.

If the pairing was a california kingsnake and a corn the offspring are often called "jungle corns". There have been some amazing looking examples posted recently in the photo section.

Congratulations on your purchase! I wish I could have attended the reptile show down there.

They are most certainly a fertile cross and people have been breeding them for years. I have several jungle king- corns (50% corn/50% king) and super king-corns (75% corn/25% king) which can only come from breeding a jungle to a pure corn. As long as they are clearly labeled as hybrids, I have no issue with people producing them. I am a fan of hybrids and will be breeding some next year, appropriately labeled as hybrids.

We were there yesterday too. We looked at the same one more then likely. We are thinking about getting one. Post a picture if you can.

Hi,
Thanks for the great response! After "Googling" I found just what you all have been saying and I'm thankful for your responses! Here are the pictures of her, "Katie"

Enjoy, and I will be sure to label her babies hybrids! I'm also getting a very bright Candycane corn Wednesday. She's the "Other woman" for my Lava Corn, Rusty.

Hi again,
The seller told me that I should give her all the food she wants, so I fed her 3 mice yesterday, and she ate 4 mice today, I thought that that should be enough. Later today I tried to give her a fuzzy that my baby reverse Okeetee didn't want and she didn't want it, so she should be good for a week or so.
Thanks for all the compliments, she is beautiful.

Ok feeding any snake the amount you did is going to shorten the snakes life and make it severly obeise. You should only ever feed one mouse every 5-14 days depending on the age of the snake. At most two mice if you don't have an appropriate sized one, you can feed two smaller prey to equal the size of an appropriate sized one. Check out the munson plan it is a great way to know what to feed at what size of snake. Here is the link to it.
