I think what people need to realize is that even though it isn't affecting corn snakes now, this affects the hobby as a whole and they WILL come after the colubrids. We all need to stand together.

I only have one corn snake but I signed this for all of you that have other snakes. Like AliCat said, are corn snakes are still with us, but you never know what could happen next.

My thoughts exactly. I see in other articles they are considering also Boa's. Really. Why take away a lap snake. Big and scary! ;)

But yea I agree, I do not own any animal on this list currently, but everyone does need to join together to get this moving!

Signed. Breed/species legislature is very harmful - just look at the "pit bull" type dogs and see how many states ban them just for looking like a "pit bull".... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breed-specific_legislation These laws are not helpful, and they bully the animals when BAD ANIMAL KEEPERS are the ones to blame, 100% of the time. This stuff drives me absolutely crazy.

I fear for all reptiles, because this sort of legislation catches on like wildfire - the media gets hyped up about these things. If you're reading this, or just lurking, just sign it. It effects a lot of people and a lot of animals.

If you guys belong to any other forums, post it! I shared this on a few things, hoping for the best, I have sent this to Brian at BHP, as he is very avid about fighting the lacy act. Fingers crossed there!

Actually, the Lacey Act does affect all wildlife, in so much as we have to follow proper labeling requirements when shipping animals interstate.

Also, do remember that this is still an ongoing process, and the retics and anacondas included in the recent finding have not yet been included in Lacey as injurious. Nonetheless, definitely worth keeping tabs on, and a show of solidarity on that petition is not a bad thing at all - I'm #273.

Be sure to support your reptile advocacy group of choice, be it USARK, PIJAC, Herp Alliance, or anyone else looking out for you and your reptiles.

Am I the only one who can't find a link in the first post?

Only 765 signatures. I bet just this website could push it past 1000. Where are all the people in the retic community?

The whole problem is we don't have the support of the ENTIRE herp community- the frog people, the tortoise and turtle people, even the small snake people. Just wait- they'll go after everything, eventually.

Agreed completely. Snakes are just the beginning as they get the most media..snakes always get a bad rap until your eyes get opened about how amazing they actually are.

I really want to push this law, especially considering boas are up for thekst as well. Think writing to my local congressman. I wish I had a bigger collection to go to local schools and start opening up eyes to some people about how misunderstood these animals are.

The whole problem is, my congressman, Bill Nelson, has this irrational loathing of snakes which he wishes to impose on his Florida constituents, and the entire country. There is no reasoning with him. I have told him, repeatedly, that this issue, alone, decides my vote. He could give a flying flip about that.
