22 is not enough snakes
I got this girl last Monday night from a family that couldn't take care of her anymore. She's got a respiratory infection and a rat bite near her tail, but otherwise healthy.

On a side note, when somebody calls me with a snake and they tell me how big it is, I always assume it's actually about 3/4 of whatever they tell me. Case in point: A month ago when they first contacted me about taking this snake, they said it was 15'6". Then when I went to get it the other night, they said "oh well that was the last time we measured her. She's got to be at least 17 or 18 feet now and close to 100 pounds"

She's 10'5" measured with a string and 47 pounds measured with a scale from Wal*Mart. The lady also told me she had a 23' burm one time too. I wonder how big it actually was...

It's just been pointed out to me that the first picture looks a little obscene at first glance...

hmm....so it does....

awwwww. I loveBurmese pythons.
:-offtopic
I remember when I was about 5-7 yes I loved snakes then. I had one about that size sit on my lap, and I was holding him. Look about that size too.

Wow great looking snake, I wonder what his cage looks like!

That's her cage behind me there (with my corn on top of it actually). The people I got her from gave me the cage too, but I have to do some work on it yet, so you're seeing one of the solid sides there. It's an 8'x4'x4' enclosure, but I don't think it needs to be nearly that tall so I'll probably cut it down a bit this spring...or else build a new one from scratch. There apparently wasn't much care taken when they built this thing. Don't get me wrong, it'll hold her, it's just ugly as sin.

She is a beautiful animal, little to big for me, but a beautiful animal.

And she does look like she's taken a liking to you Jeff.:sidestep:

I love the first pic!! Wow, she's a big girl. What's her name? What the heck does she eat??? Rat bite? Were they feeding her like 50 rats at a sitting??

They said they've been feeding her 12 rats every 2 weeks...and they bred their own. I can't imagine having that many rats in the house. I can't stand the smell. I'm going to get the RI cleared up and switch her over to rabbits as soon as she's better.

As far as the name...I wanted to go with something big and yellow. So I settled on Marge (Simpson) :)

HAHAHA

Soooo beautiful... I wish college apartments had more room.

So these snakes have the potential to reach 20 feet, right? Is that common? Or is the mid-high teens more typical??

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for burms... the first snake I ever held was a smallish 10 foot burm at a campground reptile presentation. I used to have a fantastic Polaroid of it, but I am not sure where it is now, unfortunately.

Now THAT make me chuckle! Good one.

Yeah, but when you think about it, either taken at face value, as in the photo, I'm not impressed! And if meant literally- ewwww! have you ever seen one of those things close up? I mean, yes it looks like a weird kind of flower, or something, but still...

That is a sweet snake.

Females can reach 20' without too much of a problem if they're cared for properly, and the males reach around 15'. Taking into consideration the weight, that's a whole lot of snake. A 20'+ burm can be over 200 lbs!
