Largest US Snake

All my books indicate that the Eastern Indigo Snake is the largest snake native to the US. This Bull Snake from Texas (allegedly) may put that notion to rest. At 9'4", it's a monster.

OMG, I would DIE if I found a snake like that!!! I wonder if they kept him. He's so beautiful- out in the wild, some redneck could and would kill him in a second. What a beauty! The biggest snake I've seen was an Eastern Diamondback, maybe about six feet long. I was mountain biking in an open field of tall grass with raspberry bushes. (Rabbit territory!!) He looked like a freight train crossing the singletrack- it was so exciting!! I saw the same snake maybe three times, always in the same place. (After the first time- we really watched out for him!)

Oh, and thanks to you, I just bought Venomous Snakes Of The Southeast, which I came across while trying to find the EDB record length. Since my Florida Snakes book is missing.

I'm still looking for the largest wild snake I know of around here. In September '06 I found this shed from a Black Rat - about 6' long, maybe a tad over. I found it near my job on a protected piece of land. I'm pretty sure it's still there - somewhere.

Was that snake caught or bred in captivity?

And I would suspect like in Florida, it ain't official till he is dead and in a jar.

Nanci I need to get to your neck of the woods for some herping!
As I've stated before; the biggest snakes I've caught-
Yellow Rats (2) at 7'2"
Eastern Diamondbacks (caught having nature) 5'10", 5'8."
Eastern Coachwhip 7'9."
Indigo 7'4."

Maybe not Photoshop'd, but I'm thinking captive raised. We all know alot of snakes will grow well beyond what thier natural size should be considering the feeding regiment and such. Either way is a great looking snake.

look at this guy. My uncle sent me an e-mail and he played a joke on his friend. He said this rattlesnake was found in the same area this guy was living. Actually in the same apartmen complex. lol He also said it was 9feet 1inch but I don't believe that. It might be all fake. Not sure.

But anyways that snake is huge, SkyChimp. Thanks for sharing.

Photos tend to throw off perspective a bit since everything is in focus. But that Busnake is in-hand and it's definately a long animal.

That Western Diamondback isn't. It's definately in a 'hunter's pose' with the animal well forward of the human subject.

This old photo of an Eastern appears be another snake in-hand. Another beast.
