Some of you might remember my solomon island ground boa. The day I got her she hissed and jumped, and I jumped, and we freaked eachother out. I got her 13 days ago and she hadn't left her hide since. I decided I better pull her out and make sure she's OK :grin01:
I decided to just take her out, set her on a chair and let her sit for awhile. Then put her back in the cage. I'll do this for several weeks and then eventually start handling her more. So I took her hide out and dumped her out into my leather glove clad hand. Hehe. Anyway, she just fell into my hand and didn't make any sudden moves or anything. I set her on the back of the chair with some fake leaves for cover and she just sat there.
I turned on Seinfeld and settled in. She started moving toward the leaves, and moved so slowly you could just barely see that she was moving. Finally she got in the leaves and started getting more comfy crawling around and flicking her tongue (a giant black tounge that moves in slow motion. very cool). Every time I walked past though, she recoiled quickly into the leaves.
After 20 minutes she was wrapped up in the rungs of the chair really well so I thought it was gonna be hard to remove her. I grabbed her front end and she put up no resistance and came right off the chair into my hands. She just kind of climbed around on my hands and I let her crawl back into her cage where she went for a swim.
Anyone else notice the color change? The day I brought her home her head was almost black and she was grey in color. Now she's all reddish brown. (these snakes can get lighter/darker depending on mood).
So all went well! I'm really excited. Next episode: feeding :crazy02:
