Life with Crescent

If you look down in my personal forum, there's a sticky with a link to a nice gram scale.

The larger one is nice for yearling and up cornsnakes. The bowl it comes with is perfect. It's also good if you have to weigh a package for shipping, or whatever. You're going to have to learn how to tare! It's easy.

Crescent is now into his 3rd week of Regurge Protocol and so far it has been very successful. I acquired him on 11-15-13 and he still has not shed since I have owned him. He has been very predictable with his behavior up until tonight, although his eyes look clear to me and his scales look bright and shiny, I'm hoping his new behavior is a sign of shedding.

He always sleeps in the exact same place every single night which is between a Peat Pot that is filled with damp Cocco Fiber and the top of a hide which is paced on top of his heat UTH, he sleeps between the two and he's there every night like clock work.

Well starting this morning he is sleeping and hanging out in various places but in the wide open which is very uncharacteristic of him.

Im keeping a very close eye on him.

You may just wake up one day to find it has shed :)

Would be great if he got to keep that crimson red he has now. Some grow to keep it..hope he does, would look awesome.

I've been looking for a high white reverse up here, because I'd love to add one to my collection, but have yet to find one. Though I'm not to keen from buying from pet stores, I don't think I could stop myself if I saw one lol. They are gorgeous..

I didn't want to buy one this small but when I saw him I had to have him, he gorgeous I think.

He's been a tough one since I brought him home, hes had a couple issues including regurge, but I love him dearly and really want him to grow.

I'm just concerned about his shedding, for one, I thought he's due to shed so I worry why he hasn't (yes I'm a worry wart), and two, if he sheds it means he's growing right? he's pretty small.

How you will know he has gone blue, preparatory to shedding is he will no longer be out and active when you would expect him to be. Sometimes this takes a day or two for you to notice. Another sign would be when you get out to feed him, he has gained WAY more weight than expected. This would be because he's been inactive, and hasn't pooped out his meal. You can only notice if you're weighing him on a scale that shows tenths of grams. NOT shedding doesn't mean he isn't growing. What size meal is he up to now? They gain about 30% of how many grams the prey item weighs, so if you're only feeding halves, or whatever, you aren't going to see much of a weight gain at all for a few weeks. Weight gain really takes off once they are on hoppers.

He's probably going to be what I call a "surprise shedder". I can never tell when my snow corn is about to shed his eyes never seem cloudy then suddenly one day there's his shed skin. It really teaches you patience though. I'm sure you're doing everything right. Try not to worry too much. A lot of it is in his abilities as a snake. He'll grow before you know it.

Good Morning Nanci,
First, I have ordered the scale that you have recommended and It has been shipped, It should be here soon.

Secondly, he is always very active with the exception of right after he eats, he kinds hides for a day or so and when he sleeps, but he is very active every night.

He just had his 3rd feeding under his Reurge Protocol which was a half a Pinky and so far he has kept it down.

Nanci, facts are facts, I'm a worry wart, I am that way with all of my pets, (Cats, Dogs, Frogs and Snakes) LOL

He seems like he's doing fine and coming back from the regurge great, he just hasn't shed that I notice and I haven't seen poop either but I know he's small so I may be missing it.

Like Lt. Dan states, because of Crescents color he never looks dull and eyes are so pink its hard to tell. Ill take a "chill pill" LOL

Well, he doesn't look dull because he hasn't done it yet! Just wait- he'll turn pink.

I have a bloodred male, Ancho, who was SOOO dark when I checked him Saturday, I thought he was dead! He was nearly black. Bloods are so easy to tell when they are blue.

As always that's for your input and advise, I need to learn to stop worrying and just enjoy him.

When I first got Henry(my amel) I wasn't very good at telling he was in shed. His eyes never looked very cloudy but he did turn a shade of pink. Once I noticed the pink it was about a week before he shed.

Now that I have had him longer I notice much earlier. And usually by the time I notice it's 2 weeks until he sheds. It takes time and knowing they are coming into blue makes it go slower imo.

I got my scale today , I was very anxious to weigh Crescent. His current weight is 4.7 Grams.

I believe he is very small and I need to fatten him up, after all we have been through I will get him to be a very healthy and happy animal. He seems to be doing very well, he is in his 3rd week of Regurge Protocol and has kept his 3rd meal down, he is very active and looks great.

He is a tiny little dude.

LOL, Not sure why but this made me laugh, literally. He is tiny, I love him and someday, I will post a picture of him as a healthy adult and everyone will say, holly cow I remember when he was a tiny little dude.

Woah he is small!!!! My snakes all hatched out at 8-9 grams this year. I am glad to hear he is doing well!

Is this a dangerous size? I'm wondering if this guy should have even sold him to me being this small. e seems great but I admit I worry whether he will make it or not.

Most recent weight pre last meal, still 4.7 Grams. Ill weigh him again in a few days after his digestion period is up.
