Life with Crescent

I finally got Crescent to eat this morning, he hasn't eaten since Jan 10th, I was starting to worry about him. He still is less active like he usually is , he hides all the time ever since his shed back on January 12th. He has not lost weight but he hasn't gained either.

NOTE: He wont eat at all in his main enclosure, I has to be fed outside in small cricket keeper.

With all the excitement in my house with the other new snakes, we haven't heard about my lil guy Crescent in a while, he's doing ok, has been a slow starter, he shed a perfect shed and he is eating great again (1 pinky every 4 days) but I am concerned as he's not growing as fast as Id like but, as long as he is eating and drinking im ok for with him for now.

In my experience, while they are on pinkies they don't grow very fast. Once they hit fuzzies they start really going. No worries, it sounds like he's happy and healthy :)

Thanks for your input, Im afraid to go 2 pinkies since he regurged early when I first got him, maybe Ill try 1 plus a head on his next feeding.

Doesn't he weigh like 8 grams? That is WAY too small for double pinks. I'd just keep with the four day schedule. Are you slitting?

Okay-yes, hes only 8 grams, I slit the head and belly.

Ive gotten into the habit of slitting for all my snakes now

Yeah just stick with single pinkies while he's this small. He will get there eventually. Don't worry about double pinks until he's closer to 20g.

When Henry was younger he had trouble with double pinks and regurged a couple times. It caused his growth to fall behind but once he was up to fuzzies he caught up quickly.

Okay thanks...but I want him to grow !!! LOL

Hes 5-6 months old and only 8 g

Google Munson feeding plan, print it out & hang it on the wall. It's nice to be able to look at it without looking it up.

Also I always let them get a little bigger than the chart says before moving up in prey size. Better to have a slightly small meal than one that is too big.

I fed my "Problem Child" Crescent this morning, Crescent will not eat from tongs, he will only eat if I tease him with food with tongs then eventually just drop it in front of him and he will usually grab it with-in 5 minutes. I decided to step his feedings up to 1 1/2 Pinkies with success.

He's up to 8.1g now, not leaps and bounds by any imagination but he is slowly and steadily growing, I am just a tad concerned that he may be just a little dehydrated but I will watch him very carefully, considering his size and health issues he had as a baby, I am very happy so far.

Glad to hear Crescent is doing well and growing! He's such a pretty little boy! :)

It's funny how different they each are when it comes to feeding, isn't it? Avatre would take her food from the tongs, but she would never strike, just calmly take hold and start eating, and she never constricted her food. Kaa, on the other hand, BARELY waits for the food to clear the edge of the feeding bin, and he NAILS it and immediately constricts the HECK out of it, LOL. They all have such different personalities! :)

Thank you, hes been a tough one from day 1

It is funny indeed, Crescent also does not strike, he takes it so very slowly, I almost want to help him or say, "will you just eat it already."

But my other guys strike and well my Brooksi is a different story all together, she attacks food like Ive never seen, food frenzie.

I'm not sure any of my hatchlings would take food from tongs. They'd probably think I'd lost my mind. I just put 'em in a deli and leave them alone.

What makes you think he's dehydrated?

I read somewhere in here that another member saw a little ridge in her skin and so does Crescent and people replied; possible dehydration also he's not totally round, he has a slight oblong shape which I also read could be dehydration. (?)
