But not what you think. I have never actually seen a Barn Owl in the wild. 2 fledglings came to the rehab center yesterday. Both are healthy, with no evidence of injury or illness, they are just too young, can't fly, and can't hunt. For whatever reason, they were orphaned.
Let me tell you, I've been hissed at by a LOT of different animals. Snakes, lizards, hawks, great Horned Owls, even a Yellow Headed Vulture. NOTHING can hiss like these Barn Owls. Incredibly loud and shrill, and absolutely intimidating as anything I've heard.
What an incredible experience it is to work hands on with these animals. And knowing that they are both perfectly healthy and soon to be released back to the wild is just a bonus.
