Well, for me this year I purchased my very first cornsnake, and my first snake ever for that matter! I'm absolutely thrilled to own her, can't wait to get more either.

I also bought a Kenyan Sand Boa, he's a real cutie.

Snakes are awesome :D

2007 was my introduction to corn snakes. It started with little Vern, a normal from Petco, who has had some issues, but she's my little sweetheart and is my sentimental favorite.
Learning more about cornsnake genetics led me to deciding I was interested in Anery A, in both motley and striped flavors. That led me to acquiring a pair of each flavor.
All those are hatchlings, and my son was a little uneasy with trying to handle such little wiggly critters. So at a show early in December, we got Butter, an adult ... er... butter corn. He's had his well documented issues, but has been so very sweet during it all. Despite having a syring shoved down his throat daily, being stuck in the proverbial rump every three days with a needle and crammed into a bucket of water every other day, not to mention our clumbsy efforts at handling, he has never so much as struck a defensive pose. He is completely docile and is more endearing than I could ever imagined a reptile being. While Vern will always be special, I've grown very attached to Butter. My birthday is 3/13 and I'd like to see him hit 500g by then.

No breeding this year, and none next year. Probably none in 2009. By 2010, I'll be breeding someone to someone else. I initially got the aneries to pair a stripe to a motley, but the stripe male might be left out, at least the first time. The two motley aneries are both so attractive in their own way that I might pair them to get some lovely anery motley babies.

This year obviously was good for my hobby, but it was a mixed bag professionally and personally. One of those fronts is looking better, and I'm seeking to improve the other in the coming months.

Next!

Due to life, I was MIA for most of the year. Here in Dec, I did find a nice little Sunglow Motley, that I couldn't resist. He/she/it has yet to be named... must be something Scottish :)

No breeding for me for a couple of years. I have a 6 yr old male that could be bred, but first I would have to find him a girlfriend and just anything wouldn't do. So I'm not expecting to use him anytime soon.

What snakes did people buy? - what was your favourite purchase?
I bought all my snakes this year except my first corn, which I lost... LOL
My Fav. purchase was my Ball Python, I love him to death! He's like a little baby, like a child to me actually... (I know weird but seriously!!!)

What did you breed and what did you keep?
Nothing yet, but my BP will be ready to breed in late '08 so maybe he'll make some babies.

What was this year in general like for you and the hobby?
It had many ups and downs and overall it was OK, let's hope 2008 is better!

My '07 (well the last quarter anyway) saw me taking my maintenance/demo collection back into the full fledged breeding crazy addicted forum rat that I once was. Whether that's good or bad, I'm back.

I have paired up my unpaired, and am hoping for 2 clutches of BP morphs, 1 litter of possible stripe/amel Boas, 2 litter s of AMAZING BCC's, and 1-2 clutches of Ghost/Stripe/Mot. Corns. On top of that, I'm full on into rodent breeding with a rack of rats, and cages of mice. What a late '07.

'08 will totally depend on my luck/production this year, if all of the above goes through, I fully intend on seeking out a pair of Hypo Lav. Motleys (just love them),.. but honestly, predicting what direction I'll go with Corns is impossible, just too much to choose from. With the Boas, I'll be trying to possibly secure some triple Moonglow hets (thats just too fun waiting on litters from those), continuing my quest for BCC perfection, and seeing what morphs my Balls produce (although I love Super Pastels in the "affordable" category), and going from there.

I really can't wait for '08, just wish I had more $$$!

This year I got an '04 Snow, and an '07 Butter Motley. I don't breed yet, and might not ever breed. I have no where to place hatchlings. I'd say that overall the year was ok. I bred lots of mice and rats, and the freezer is full of food for the snakes. I had my first experience with breeding for genetics in my rats. I bred my hairless rats and got some cool stuff. Played around with hets and what not. But now on to watch the new year's eve shows on TV :dunce:

I bought...oy, I got ShugaBoog (lavender) in June, Schnee (striped snow) in August & I'm awaiting two hatchlings from Michelle...:) Favourite purchase, though? I know where this question is going, but overall -- probably the racks that I got for my new computer room to put all of my snake tanks on. :)

What did you breed and what did you keep?
I bred no snakes, no cats, not even myself (though, for a short bit there, there was debate about that one!). :p

What was this year in general like for you and the hobby?
Between having Fritz in the classroom, dealing with probably having too many reptiles in my former apt & then having to move them out to my new place, it was stressful. Really stressful. Now, I have space, I have freedom: everything is a lot more relaxed & peaceful. We're all happy & looking forward to 2008.

However -- I have to admit: I reached quite a few people in my school, students & colleagues (teachers, admin & staff alike!) who have learned a lot from Fritz. In that respect, it was also an enlightening & elating year...:) I can't complain. The stress & struggle was worth every moment then.

Happy New Year!

Lets see - I about doubled my collection this year. Last year I had about 22/23 snakes by the end of the year. As of today - I have something like 48. Needless to say, too many to remember off hand and list them all individually. Would also make it hard to pick one favorite....
Yas, the little zig zag snow probably has the sweetest disposition out of all the new corns. But I am kind of partial to Priscilla - the western hognose I got from Katie (PTDnsr) at Daytona.

None of my corns are big enough to breed yet (one more year to go), so I only bred my Grayband Kings and my Sinaloan Milks. Keeping a pair (only had one female) from the graybands, no holdbacks from the Sinaloans.

Overall it was a good year. Added new morphs/genes that I wanted for breeding in 2009/2010. Experienced the whole breeding thing with the kings and milks. Went to Daytona which was a blast again and already can't wait for August 2008 for the next one.

I bought my male ghost ph blood fom Lexcorn and male anery stripe from Phil draper, and foolishly thought that was it, then I got to another reptile show with money in my pocket, so I came home with my male blood het amel from Lexcorn and female Love okeetee from Snake city. And then thanks to Nigel (Cornmorph) I got my blood multi het female and male okeetee x leach males from Vinman.
I can't really pick a favourite from them, because to my biased eyes they're all lovely! If anything the boy from Vinman stole my heart with his cobra impressions and quick-fire biting, he is a lively one!
Breeding for the first time and my poor granite had difficulty laying due to my inexperience, and only 3 of the eggs hatched. Normals het for blood, anery and amel, I kept a female, one I euthanised due to it's prolapsed intestines, the remaining male I traded for juicy mousicles.
So the result of this is that I really can't put off either buying or making a new snake rack sooner rather than later, for the babies are growing like weeds and will need to upgrade their tubs soon, while the yearlings are also due to upgrade to their adult tubs. Plus if my breedings go to plan and Murphy stays away I'll have 3 clutches of hatchlings to accommodate this year!

I got Big Jake the Florida King for Christmas, although he didn't arrive till April, with Lila my adopted lavender. I blame Lila for turning me back from this eclectic collection of hoggies and kings and milks, to corns. She's just so sweet. I resisted a long time- even made it through Daytona without buying a snake, although I did buy Isabel the bearded dragon, who I dearly love. I can't imagine not having a big lizard around the house now. Then Carol had that sale, and I picked up three corns there, (Milksnake Phase Miami Cherry, Hypo Bloodred Jasper, Oldschool Bloodred Jasmine) requiring the purchase of a rack, (for my birthday!) and since I had the vacancy, I got Lily the lavblood from Rich, too. For Christmas!

What did you breed and what did you keep?

I don't have anyone of breeding age yet. I'm years away. I think I have a nice lav/blood/hypo/lavblood group going now, though, and only need a fire stripe to make it complete! So if I want to breed, I should produce some nice babies. But that's yet to be decided.

What was this year in general like for you and the hobby?

Year in general- too awful for words. Except for that bike award thing- that was cool. Herpwise- pretty dang good! Lots of nice new animals, new caging, new rack. Got to go to a ton of fun herp shows, nearly all with herp friends from Florida! Got to see Reptile World. Went to Daytona and met cs.com people from all over the country! Got to meet Rich Z! Had dinner with Rich Hume!! Plus got to meet and see snakes of nearly every other well-known corn breeder there is. Lee Abbott! Rob and Loiuse Stevens! Don Soderberg! Of course Kathy Love- she's everywhere! There's nothing better than socializing with snakey friends- I can't wait till the shows start up again. I already have my Daytona reservations!

What snakes did people buy?
Bought two corns.
1.0 Anery A [Fenrir]
0.1 Amel [Sif]

What was your favourite purchase?
I love them both. But if I had to choose
I would pick my Anery [Fenrir]

What did you breed?
nothing.

What was this year in general like for you and the hobby?
Good year :)
Added a dog and 2 snakes to the family.
Got my long awaited flesh tunnel.
Started with 4mm - now @ 8 mm
Made a nice trip to London.

Hopefully 2008 will be a blast too.
:)

I wish everybody the best

I became a member of the MBK club with Balthazar. I also picked up the best snake ever with Deuce a normal corn who has been perfect in every way so far: eating, shedding, temperament, handling, growth, etc, etc.

What snakes did I buy

I bought a 07 Locality Okeetee from MegF, who is growing very quickly.
I also bought a 07 normal Ball Python female.

Favorite

My favorite will always be my 06 Snow corn! He was a petstore buy when I first got into snakes and had some medical issues that cost quite a bit. So I feel very happy that he is healthy and growing and (as always) a perfect gentleman.

breed

I do not breed yet. I would eventually like to find a nice pied male BP and get some 100% hets from my girl. That will be in a few years though. Meanwhile, I am saving up the money to buy a pied male and feeding my hungry little female to help her grow big and strong!

What was the year like for me and the hobby

Well, I snuck into two more snakes without getting thrown out by the boyfriend! He likes them, but is afraid that they will overrun the small apartment. That's why, I told him, we need a rack! He isn't quite convinced yet.....

This year has been good in some respects, bad in others. I finally went to see a doctor and found out that I had muscle damage, not a fractured pelvis (from falling off a horse onto my back on a large rock). So, with some stretches and pain, I started walking instead of limping! Yay! I have learned a huge amount about corns this year and have started researching ball pythons. I love learning, so that is good. I also started my first two year old filly this year, which is very cool.

Unfortunately, I had to give my horse away this year, which makes me very sad. I also found out I am allergic to Vicoden(sp?)....that was a fun experience!
