Luchador, our new mexican black kingsnake.

Just picked up this guy from the local petstore, as the owner had to go away for a long time and couldn't keep him. He's absolutely lovely, didn't mind being handled at all, and weighs a hefty 520g at roughly 3 years of age. He's had to go in a separate room due to corns, but he certainly has enough space.

In the light he's very iridescent, hence he's somewhat blue in the pic even though he's not in shed - he's a lovely solid black, with a tiny little white chip on the underside of his head.

This is also the second time posting this topic as the first didn't show up. If it does, apologies!

We (Tatile and I) have kept him separate partly because of the quarantine issue, but also because he's a strong muscled snake and if he does break out of his locked viv, I want a couple of rooms between him and the corns - he'd consider them food, and I'm pretty sure if they could smell him they'd get quite stressed.

He has a mild history of it - when he was about a year old he broke out of a locked and clipped terrarium, broke in to another, and ate the £150 milksnake inside!

Wow he is pretty. I was going to get a MKB but got a Nitida instead. I didn't know MKBs got so big.

I keep my kings and corns in the same room. They don't seem to mind being in the same room.

Beautiful snake! We keep our little yearling female MBK in the same room as our corns and it doesn't seem to bother her at all. We can't wait till she gets that size :D

Blimey. Just fed him a small snack, a fuzzie that was defrosted for one of the corns 'just in case', though it was content with one. So, I offered it, via tongs, to Luchador. All our corns nose up against the mouse, nudge it a bit, then start eating. Luchador, however, struck from roughly 9 or so inches away, so hard he ended up splattering mouse goo over his log hide... so we cleaned that.

He has a good feeding response then. He also tail rattled twice as I put his hide back in and rearranged the fake plants to cover it again, so we're guessing that he's a bit antsy after feeding, considering he's placid otherwise. Certainly worth a small fuzzie to find that out!
