Major growth difference! (2 babies)

Lolo

Surrounded by snakes
I got Wednesday the Ghost Motley and Eddie the Granite at the same time, when they were both babies (2-3 months old, maybe?). Eddie was bigger at 21g, whereas little Wednesday only weighed 11g... it's now three months later, and the boy weighs 43g while the girl is still only 17g! :shrugs:

I know the main reason behind the difference in growth, which is that he'll eat anything and everything I offer, but she is finicky - only live pinky mice/rats thus far, and seems full after one. Eddie, on the other hand, is devouring two f/t fuzzies weekly, and would happily eat 10 if I allowed it. In looking at the Munson plan, it seems she's ready for double pinks, and I've been feeding less frequently than suggested... I can only feed live every 7 days, as that's how often my live-feeding ball pythons eat. Since I have to drive 10 miles (each way) for decent feeders, I'm not making extra trips for one pinky mouse!

Munson also suggests Eddie's weight equals one fuzzy, but he looks so ravenous I always give him two. Is that okay? He doesn't look fat at all, in fact I think he's the perfect weight for his length. As for finicky Wednesday, should I maybe bump her up to 3 pinks weekly? Would that help to kick-start her growth? I don't know that much about corn growth, but 6g in 3 months does seem awfully slow! She hasn't refused a meal since the first month, when I gave up on getting her to take frozen... so I thought she would have gained more weight by now. Whaddya think?

P.S. I'll try to get some pictures later, but my camera charger is on the lam. I can't believe how much the boy has grown!

Feed them as much as they will eat! They will stop when they have had enough. The important thing to remember is that pinkies have very little nutritional value and you want to get them to larger mice as soon as possible. The so called "Munson plan" is just a minimal guide and common sense should tell you what to do. Get a couple good books and they will help you more than anything.

Thanks! I do have the Kathy Love book, but have only skimmed it... guess I need to give it a more thorough read. ;)

If he can handle two fuzzies and doesn't regurge go for it! I wouldn't go so far to say feed as much as they will eat though. I have some that would eat themselves sick, and if they eat too much and regurge it can be very hard on them. Remember in the wild snakes don't know when their next meal will be so alot of times they act like they will eat more when they really don't need it.

Some snakes just start out smaller eaters than others. I have a female who will eat anything and everything given to her (I think she thinks she is part kingsnake), and I have another female who is happy with just one.
Each snake is different on how fast they grow two. You could have two snakes from the same clutch of eggs, grow up in the same environment, and one will be 100 grams heavier than the other. Its just how mother nature works.

I was feeding two fuzzies to my normal for a while because they were the right size, but very skinny. She's fine.

I personally think 2 should be the limit unless you feed smaller items. If you feel offering all the snake will eat is okay in your gut, go with it. I've been going along with my gut since I got both my corns, and except for some fuzzies going bad (and causing regurges), I've had no issues.
