Making a list, need to check it twice

NFS07

Stolen
So this FL King is a go. My list to buy before he comes into my house.

Check list
Tub, I'm not getting a tank for him right now. Maybe later.
UTH. Any should work fine on a plastic tub right?
temp/hum thingys
pinkies, he should not be on them much longer so at the show I'll pick up 25 fuzzies and 50 hoppers.

Do anyone see a problem with me using a cut up milk jug as a water bowl?

I have stuff to put in the tub as far as hides and such.

So do I have everything I need? I think I do.

Also one random thing, with a new snake does it have to stay out of my room or just not near my corn to start with?

The farther you can separate them, the better. Mites can travel. I'd do really, really good handwashing between handling both of them.

Can I use a cut up milk jug as a water bowl?

I guess I do need a new thermostat, ha. Thank you Nanci for your replies.

I think he could tip over a milk jug. Hey, you _could_ use your other thermostat for them both, except for the isolation factor, _if_ the vivs and UTHs are pretty similar. Long extension cord?? So back to the water bowl, can you buy a cheap dog/cat bowl at Petsmart? I guess even those plastic bowls that are hollow at the bottom work ok.

Hummm I'm going to guess that a few feet is not enough space between the two? It's fine I can get another online.

For the King I would be using a plastic tub so they are not the same and I don't want to run the risk of one not being hot enough or to hot.

I can find a cheap water bowl, it's not a problem. I had not thought about the fact that he could tip it over. Thanks for that.

I buy all of my water bowls at the dollar store...super-easy & super-cheap.

I don't know if this store is near you -- Menard's (like a Home Depot, but better!) -- but they're having a sale on thermometers this week...I went & bought 2 yesterday. :)

To regulate my UTHs, I have all of mine attached to the "$7 rheostat" found on this site...in fact, I'm making more today. :) Super-easy, super-cheap & at least for me, super-reassuring!

I also have two of my snakes in Sterilite tubs with a UTH attached, and it's been working fine -- no melting, no problem at all. :) In fact, I think that my snakes like it better than being in a regular tank!

why do they need to be apart from each other? I mean my snakes are all in the corner of my room..

This is a practice that everyone should do. I saved my entire collection from a mite issue that came in with one snake. I am currently treating it right now.
Its is in a Quarantine room in the basement.

If you are going to get into keeping and breeding herps you will need to start practicing this. I learned my lesson well through years of owning tropical and Saltwater fish. Always have a QT tank set a side before introducing new fish to your tank.

George, you just have to separate/quarantine new arrivals. If you have a collection of snakes that have been healthy for some time, you may keep them near each other.

What are you gonna use for hides and substrate?
