Market Research on rodent prices

I always use Layne Labs. Mice are always clean and appropriately sized and still frozen upon arrival. I just bought 50 large fuzzies, 50 hoppers, and 25 small adults for $118. And $40 of that was for shipping.

I so wish there was someplace local that I could pick up my frozen feeders.

My last order a couple of months ago was a little over $1k. I don't mind so much paying for the actual product, but shipping alone cost $220! :eek1:

I don't know if these places are near you, or if you already know about them but they are both in Michigan.
If you have heard bad things about either place please let me know so I don't buy from them, thanks!
Great Lakes Rodent
Perfect Pet

i placed an order from rodent pro because they had a special for .24 for peach fuzzies, .29 for white fuzzies, and hairless hoppers were .35 a piece i ended getting 500 miscicles for 238.34 shipped to san diego. Only thing i didnt like is that the bags they came in were regular zip locks so i had to buy a food saver to properly bag them. I dont know if this is the norm or not this was my first online order.

Alicia P - thanks for the info! I haven't heard of Great Lakes Rodent; will check them out - they're not too far from me.

I don't know if Perfect Pet is owned by the same people that I bought some feeders from years ago. This other place was also in Belleville, but for the life of me, I can't remember what name they were using. The product was horrible - lots of shavings and fecal matter in the bags, urine soaked in the fur, and underweight animals. I ended up throwing a lot of them out. Don't want to slam Perfect Pet - this may be someone else entirely, and it was a long time ago.

I always use Layne Labs. Mice are always clean and appropriately sized and still frozen upon arrival.

I switched over to Layne when The Mouse Factory went out of business. Their stuff is great, but I usually buy around 1500 feeders, and the shipping kills me from California to Michigan. :(

Loxahatchee Rodents has had decent prices and shipping. I have used them the past couple times I have needed to buy extra rodents when mine aren't producing enough.

Just went with Rodent Pro as I couldn't find a comparable price elsewhere. Paid 117 and change for 100 pinks, 50 small mice and 50 large mice. I could have ordered more, but I'm on a tight budget this month and hope to pick up the rest at an expo.

I vend at the Dixie Reptile Show in Birmingham every month. My prices do fluctuate from time to time but the past few months this is what I've been charging:

Mice
small/large pinkies .25 small/large fuzzies .38 hoppers .60 weanlings .73 adults .80 xl adults .95

Rats
pinkies .45 fuzzies .60 pups .85 weanlings 1.00 small 1.35 plus small 1.50 medium 1.85 large 2.50 jumbo 3.45

I have one competitior at that show, I've sent ghost buyers to purchase rodents from them to compare quality is I wasn't very impressed. I always beat their price anyway. :)

I was shipping rodents but unfortunately I can't get dry ice anymore so that has put an end to that until I can find another source. If Birmingham isn't too far of a drive it may be worth some of you checking it out.

The cost of shipping is enough for feeders. I usually stock up at shows & expos but nothing beats a constant supply. Maybe I will eventually go back to breeding rodents.
