In the land of Cheeeeeese
After trying all of the recommended ideas people have given me...Mr. Slithers didn’t make it.

I found him dead this morning in his viv outside of his hide.

Here is a chronology of events:

11/29/2006 – Mr. Slithers arrives from breeder via FedEx
12/2/2006 – 1.46 Gram pinkie, did not feed
12/3/2006 – 1.52 Gram Mr. Slithers/pinkie left in shipping cup overnight, did not feed
12/7/2006 – 1.38 Gram pinkie, he ate it
12/10-12/11/2006 – Regurgitated the pinkie
12/20/2006 - .54 Gram pinkie head, he ate it
12/23/2006 - .42 Gram pinkie head, he ate it
12/31/2006 - .96 gram ½ pinkie, he ate it
01/01/2007 – found him dead in his viv

The temperatures in his enclosure this morning were:

75.3 degrees "cool" side ambient air temperature
85.5 degrees "warm" side temperature on the glass

Im so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you were doing everything correct, I guess he wasn't meant to live.

Did you contact the breeder when he didn't eat at first? Usually breeders only sell when the snakes have been eating.

I have been in constant contact with them have they have been just wonderful. We have shared ideas and strategies, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be with Mr. Slithers.

Now I need to wait until the kids come back from Grandma’s today to tell them :(

I have an e-mail out to the breeder and will certainly work with them to try and determine what went wrong.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. You did everything you could. Many breeders guarantee their hatchlings. Although Mr. Slithers passed away after the "usual" 30 days, a really decent breeder will offer a free replacement in your situation.
 
I'm sorry to hear about your pet. On a macro scale, it's useful to try and figure out what went wrong. However, on a personal scale, it doesn't help agonizing over what went wrong. Nature just did not intend that all corn snake babies survive.
 
So sorry to hear that. Sometimes they just don't make it, despite our best efforts.

As I stated, I e-mailed the breeder and was waiting to hear back from her before I posted her name.

I bought him from Kathy Love and we have both worked together to give him the best chance possible, unfortunately even the best laid plans go astray sometimes.

She is taking care of the situation. I was amazed by her quick responses to my e-mails and the suggestions we both worked on…she is top notch the whole way and would recommend her to anyone.

sorry to hear about mr. slithers...........losses are always hard to deal with. it is people like mrs. love and some other well-respected members on this site that make having snakes as pets more enjoyable. allot of the time they do not recieve the credit they deserve. hope everything works out for you, post some pics of your new one when you decide to replace him.

You’re right, if it weren’t for professionals like Kathy, other reputable breeders, and members of this forum…our hobby would be very tough to enjoy indeed.

In trying to think about what could have caused his death, has anyone run into problems with their frozen mouse supply???

The pinkie in question was an Artic Mice (T-Rex brand) bought at PetSmart.

Sorry to hear that. As someone else said, sometimes it's just not meant to be. It doesn't sound like you did a thing wrong.

Sorry to hear about your bad news. Iota lost Bruno tonight. We got him at five weeks or so. It was touch and go getting him to eat, but things started looking up...eating regularly (heads, halves, finally whole pinkies). After the last meal, about nine days ago, he seemed to have trouble eliminating the meal. He was due to shed soon and became lethargic. The poor little guy seemed to become constipated and started drinking a lot of water. The front six inches became skinny and flaccid, while the back end became markedly distended. We tried the warm baths and exercise, but this evening the curtain dropped.
To anyone out there who might have an opinion: what evidence do you know of concerning extremely hard water? We are on a well and have noticed a larger amount of scale in our water recently. We even bought a jug of drinking water for Bruno, but never got a chance to use it.
Anyway,...condolences to anyone who has gone through trying to keep a hatchling firing on all eight. It would be nice to know what might have gone wrong, if anyone has suggestions. We really enjoyed his company while he was around.

I was starting to think about the food source, myself. Bruno's pinkies came from a different supplier (they look really good, for whatever that means). Who can say?
Bruno went down pretty hard...Iota just happened to check on him when it happened, which is why I'm posting. If anyone feels like sending her a note, I'm sure it would be appreciated
