Who says apples don't fall far from the tree? **Warning** Proud mom alert!!

My 2nd grader, in a school of over 400 students, has won the Compassion Award three times in the last 3 years. This week, he won a weekly award for Respect. I don't know where he gets it, but I think I could learn a few things from this kid. [/proud mom alert]

Gotta love those moments, and don't underestimate them either! Trust me Lori, when I say the way they express themselves in grade school carries through till their adulthood.
I too had kids that had that kind of recognition and to this day they show that compassion and need to help others... It all starts in the home!

He's a Pod Person!

Lori what's he doing to the bunny? Dean would be very upset to see any bunny mistreatment ya know. Is that what he learned from mom?

CONGRATS Matthew! (((((HUGS)))))

Woo Hoo! Great job Matthew!!
Thanks, Katie. I posted this mostly for him to see when he gets home. He really is such an awesome kid!

Thanks, Nancy...Matthew has always been this way. I think my two sons are why I get so confused on the nature/nurture thing. They are like Cane and Abel. My younger one displays very little of the compassion Matthew has had almost from the womb. They're uniquely different, but I wouldn't change a single thing about either of them. I'm quite content knowing that Lucas will be the best darn license plate maker in the system!! :grin01:

Thanks for all the nice comments, guys!! You all type much faster than I do!!

ROFL! That's the first thing Dean said: "Aww, and he's holding a bunny!"

LOL... PLease don't short Lucas. My son Travis is nothing like his sisters. He, is so much more like is dad. very quiet and non responsive it's scary. Trust me though as Lucas grows he'll change, it will be subtle, but he will change.

I definitely think that is something to be proud of!!!! Being kind, polite, respectful and compassionate are all traits that seem to have sadly fallen out of style. So I think it is great for him!!!!

Snake food? Are you kidding? I had to sneak the mice into the bins so he woudn't cry at the injustice of it all!!!!! He's fine with f/t, but f/k was way beyond what his little mind could deal with.

LOL... I had the same thing happen with my girls. Sadly though it was at weekly feeding time, because our petshop that we got our snake at fed live I thought at the time, that was the way to go. I had done some research, but thought the shop would know the proper way to do. ANYWAY, when we would pick up mice(which i'm petrified of) my daughters wanted to keep them as pets. I'M SO HAPPY TO HAVE FOUND OUT WE COULD FEED F/T!....lol

Oh I know! I fortunately had learned prior to getting my first that I could feed f/t, but that little snausage boa I got gave me fits, so I got one pregnant mouse so I could try her on live pinks. Well of course, one pregnant mouse becomes a colony, and then two colonies, and so on and so on...because the boys wanted all the mousie pets they could possibly have. It was a constant battle in creative...um...fibbing...to explain why the colonies began dwindling away.

awwwww... Go him! :D >_> I remember as a child getting suspended in 4th grade for chasing a bunch of boys with a stick because they were knocking butterflies out of the air and pulling off their wings... and shortly thereafter hitting a kid who pulled the legs off a beetle.

The yard duties got together on their own and gave me an award when I returned from suspension praising me for being a protector of animals.

Some things really are in your nature from a very early age, and I know he'll make you even prouder.
