I have a second eastern milksnake named Milkweed that is significantly smaller than Milkshake. To feed her I chop up a pinkie and offer her small pieces with a rubber tipped tweezers (yeah, lot's of fun). She will usually take three or four pieces (almost half a pinkie) before burrowing in the aspen. I'll take a photo of her once she's a bit more established.
They came from two different breeders. Milkweed was much smaller when I got her and she didn't show much interest in eating at first. She is very fiesty for a such a tiny little thing though and I used it to my advantage. A few weeks ago I put a small piece of pinky on the tweezers and put it in front of her. She lunged at it twice and on the third time with her mouth wide open. Well it ended up in her "pie hole" and she decided to swallow it. Since then she will readily accept pieces from the tweezers (yeah). She shed last week so that's a good sign that's she growing. Can't wait till she's able to take regular pinkies
Being feisty will probably save her life, I'm sure! They must be pretty small when they hatch. One of these days I would love to find one in my area.
Milkweed is a good name, too. I was having a hard time naming my black milk snake, wanting to stick with the Milk theme that I started with Milkshake. The only one I could come up with was Milkman! I scrapped the theme and went with Loki (which is along the theme of my Cal kings).
