Meet Tom Yum: Carol's Daytona Pick-Up (Oreophis porphyraceus coxi)

Nanci

Alien Lover
This guy is so sweet! Carol scoured the show and found him- the very best one! He was too expensive, but when she went back on Sunday, prepared to buy a hatchling, the seller offered her an irresistible deal on this beautiful adult male, so she was able to buy him after all! She is VERY happy...

Tom Yum is staying with me until Carol is home/settled, shipping weather is cooperative, and Mini-Butters the World's Smallest Cornsnake gets a couple meals in him!!

I'm setting up a 20L for him in my coolest room, and will get more pics of him while I have the chance!!

Gorgeous! One of them is at the top of my Wanted list. What do you think of them so far?

Well, I've only handled the one. He's totally relaxed, nice, tongue-flicky, lounges around on top of the CareFresh in his temporary bin. Slow-moving, not flighty. I thought he had burrowed when I didn't see him on the surface, but he was in his bowl! I wonder if that is a statement on the temp in my house (about 80) so I'm fixing up a 20L for him in my coldest room. I actually pretty much love him!!

Luckily I had enough stuff around to make him a decent temporary home. His thermostat was set on 100F! (One of those BAH on/offs, the dial must have got turned when it ws moved). Demonstrates the importance of having probed thermometers. Now it's set on 80F and the UTH is cooling off.

Tom cruised around the perimeter and then made a beeline into the winehouse!

Since he _was_ soaking, I did a very thorough mite inspection before placing Tom in his new viv. His underside is brilliant white- very easy to see there are no parasites.

This is not the best pic, but you can see how big he is.

YAY!! I'm so glad Carol was able to get him!

Those critters are amazingly gorgeous. I'm gonna be certain to get on the list for a baby.

Speaking of Mini-Butters, have you weighted him yet?

Sorry for sounding dum but can someone please explain to me what a mini butters corn is. I'm a little confused. Thanks in advance.

AWESOME- once I fifnsh my cold/montaine room in the new snake building, I'm gonna get a pair of these guys- simply beautiful!

Thanks for sharing Nanci!

Mini-Butters is a butter mot with thick white borders. He weighed in at 3.5g, OMG!! The breeder said he had two meals of whole pinks, but I am skeptical...

I need to build a cold/montaine room and move into it. I'm very envious of Tom Yum right now. His room is 71F!! The living room and my bedroom are ten degrees warmer, even with the supplemental AC running!!

Sooo Pretty!!!!! And I sure didn't expect to learn that they needed a cooler environment than a corn snake! I just looked at those tropical colors and figured..."hot and humid...pain to maintain". I have to keep that in mind for future reference.

Humidity and temp wise, they are pretty close to my cresties in care. Shouldn't have a problem with that. I'm hoping to see some at the expo in Utah here in a bit. Didn't see any last year but someone did have some in 2009, so maybe ...

I would be hanging out with Tom Yum then!

He is absolutely gorgeous!

Ok another question. I thought mini butter was the one in the pic. Sorry. so what is the snake in pic of. I am so sorry I'm just feeling a little slow today.
