Minerva and Daphne (kitties)

Kiss My Hearse
With the loss of three cats, we've been feeling a little empty. We still have several cats and we love them all, but Violet was such a snuggly, loving kitten and Cinnamon was so friendly and loved everyone that their loss has been felt so deeply. Cinnamon was a one cat greeting committee for anyone who came over. If she could have poured drinks for guests, she would have. :) There's no way to replace them, as all cats are different, but we felt that Minerva (Violet's younger sister) needed someone her own age to bond with and we hoped to find a friendly kitten that would be more sociable than our other cats.

We hit the jackpot at the humane society this morning. We had been thinking about a male tabby, since our experience has been that they are usually very friendly, snuggly cats. There were no young tabbies. There were few young cats, under a year old. We didn't want a little kitten, we figured six months was fine, that's Minerva's age. There were a lot of torties, which was sad because we both worship them. So as we're walking around the cat section, we both notice one little room had two tortie sisters and their black brother. They were about 6-7 months old and both torties looked so much like Cinners. I locked eyes with one of them and it was like looking into Cinnamon's eyes. I know it isn't Cinnamon, but the connection was the same. My husband and I both felt it and I knew her name was Daphne. So we went into the "get to know you" room with her and her brother. The brother was playful, but not so affectionate. Daphne purred and rubbed and purred and rubbed and jumped in our laps and gave us love bites. She didn't shy away at all. Once we got her home, it took her all of 30 mins to cruise the downstairs and show no fear of the other cats. She comes right up to you and wants to be petted and loved. The dogs drove her to higher ground at first, but she seems ok now. What is absolutely freaky is that she is almost a carbon copy of Cinnamon, in looks and personality. I don't think I'll ever mistake her for Cinnamon, but the the similarity is striking.

Without further ado, meet Minerva (first two pics) and Daphne (third pic) and last pic is Cinnamon for comparison. She was 15 and had cataracts in that pic.

The pics make Minerva's eyes look more yellow, but they are bright orange. I think she looks like an owl, hence the name Minerva for the Goddess.

Congrats! I love Minerva's light spot. It's like someone is shunning a light on her!

Thanks, everyone.

We feel so blessed to have all of our cats. Apparently Daphne and her siblings were surrendered by someone who couldn't care for them. They had mild URI symptoms when they came in a few weeks ago, but are ok now. Daphne had only been put out for display/adoption today. It was definitely meant to be. On our way to the humane society this morning, my husband felt a very strong spirit presence in the car with us. We both think it was Cinnamon. She knew how hard it was for us. We've made offerings on our altar as thanks to Gaia and Bastet for bringing Daphne, aka Min Cin, into our lives. Daphne will be spoiled rotten, like all our cats. We now have four torties: Miso - 8yrs old, a torbie point siamese; Frida - 7yrs old, a dilute; Minerva - 5-6 months, mostly black and now Daphne - 6ish months, more orange mingled with black.

Minerva's eyes are really orange, the pic makes them look amber. She was the only one in a late summer litter from some feral cats that live next door. Violet was from their first litter earlier in the summer. Minerva keeps looking at Daphne in awe, like she can't believe another cat her size is playful and doesn't flop around like Derp (Violet). They've been playing with feathers on a stick, but not necessarily with each other yet. They will. They look like they're from the same litter. I hope they become close and Daphne helps Minerva come out of her shell around people.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your kitties :( It's always so heartbreaking.

And Congrats on the new baby, she is GORGEOUS. I'm a tortie lover myself, our girl Kaymen is 8.5. She was really skittish/nervous for a few years but as she's getting older she is getting soooo loveable, she's done a complete 180. We also have a yr old Torbie (tabby/tortie mix) who is kinda bi-polar, you never know if she wants some lovins or if she wants to eat you, LOL

Ninners was never a cuddly cat until she was about 12 or 13. She always hated being picked up, but at some point, probably when the cataracts started, she wanted to be held all the time.

The best part of getting Daphne is that Minerva now has someone to play with. They've already bonded pretty well. It makes me so happy.
