I know what you all are thinking, but no, this isn't about Dean, Susan or Mike. Heck, it's not even about Rich.
As some know, I tend to occasionally pop in and visit Reptilerooms.com just for the hell of it. It's normally after I read all of the 'new posts' here and get bored. Anyway, they are now strictly enforcing this new rule:
So I saw this 'new rule', and I'm sure you all know my response. I voiced my opinion in a stickied thread in the cornsnake part of the forum---discussed it back and forth a few times with a mod---and then it disappeared.
I checked my PM the next day to find this:
I thought that answer was lame, so I replied with:
I thought that was a polite response, and soon enough I had another PM waiting for me...
Of course my first thought after reading that was, "well you're a ^%&*#". My second thought was, thank god CS.com isn't run like this. It kills me that their forum 'rules' state that 'members should post in a way that is respectful with other users and this site'. Funny, I guess that doesn't apply to the admins of the website. Of course I replied back, called her out for calling me stupid---and surprise surprise---no response back. That's not the first time I've gotten into it with a mod over there---challenged them on something and had no response.
Anyway, that aside, what do you all think of the 'no feeding pictures' rule. I'm curious to see if you guys have the same reaction and thoughts on the matter that I do...

Just a note on Posting Images, a new rule is to be enforced as from now. NO feeding pictures which involve mammals, or other reptiles being consumed are allowed. This has had to be enforced, as recently, more and more pictures have been posted, which seem to offend people, especially when a lizard is eating another lizard, and some people on the site keep the lizard which is being eaten as pets. Moderators will remove these pictures upon seeing them, and the user will be warned. Insect feeding pictures are fine.

Please do not cause problems because a moderator added something that HAS ALWAYS been the situation here. MANY people do not want to see one animal eating another one. Yes it may be nature. It is nature for crocs to eat dogs, for people to drown, for tigers to enter or hang around villages to make off with young children and for dingos to enter tents and make off with baby humans. It is also natural for people to become attached to their pets, at least it is with lizards and mammal owners, maybe not with snake owners, I really do not know, I have snakes, but then I am not atttached to them so maybe you can not understand that feeling. But it is common sense not to display photos of any of the above being eaten by another animals.
It is not just someone's 12 year old kid, there are MANY adults that do not want to see it either. There are more complaints from adults alone than from someone's mother and you can display your snakes fine without having to show them eating something
Thank you

Cheri-
While I respect your decision and that of the admin of this website, I strongly disagree with it and think it's catering to the vast minority of this website. How many active members do you have on this website? How many members have complained about seeing a feeding picture?
To me, it would make perfect sense if there was a rat or mouse person who didn't like to see snakes eating mice---they wouldn't post on a board that was devoted to reptiles. I understand that people become attached to their pets, and that's totally understandable. However, a mouse that has been in my freezer for 4 months was not someones pet, nor is it a specific poster's pet. I honestly do not see why anyone would complain about seeing feeding pictures, other than the fact that they need something to complain about. I honestly think it is completely ridiculous to outlaw feeding pictures on this website. Many people with large collections have the camera out when it's feeding time---because that's when it's easiest to photograph 50+ snakes. It is certainly easier to be taking pictures when the snakes have to be out than it is to pull out every snake when it's not a feeding or cleaning day.
However, that brings me to my other question that I asked and was deleted. What about snake 'porn'? If feeding pictures are getting complaints, than I would certainly assume that people would just about freak out if someone posted pictures of their snakes 'doing it'. However, many newbies to the hobby have no idea how snakes do it and many people enjoy seeing the pictures? So, are those allowed, or no?
I would really hope that the moderators and the admin of this website reconsider on the feeding shots 'ban'. I think you are doing a vast disservice by catering to the few people who happen to complain about them. There are other ways around the complete ban, which would be beneficial to all. A simple rule of stating that feeding pictures must have that noted in the thread title would be more than satisfactory in warding off people who have huge problems seeing a snake eat a mouse. Just a suggestion....
I thought that was a polite response, and soon enough I had another PM waiting for me...

You seem to miss totally the fact that has been the status here for 5 years and you never felt you had to bitch or comdemn others for their feelings about it before.
MOST people have the common sense and good grace to know that others may find it distrubing and never post them so there has never been an issue with it.
MOST people can display and show off their pets for others to appreciate without having to have it eating what other people consider pets.
I can not imagine that you are so stupid you can not see that whether it is their ACTUAL pet or one that looks like, some people find a anole being eaten or a bearded dragon being chopped in half disturbing and would rather not see it when they are reading a post or admiring someone elses pet
aS far as mating pictures, if they were on the site and several people complained about them, yes, I would have them removed. I do not need to see them "doing it" to get the idea, but I have no problems with photos of it if others do not either.
This site exist to help others. THats the bottom line and seeing a snake or monitor eating a lizard or rabbit is not helping anyone normally. Yet is may distress some.... so no, they do not need to be on here.
"fact that they need something to complain about" yes, some people will jump on anything just cause the feel they need something to complain about
