It could be a result of the recent restrictions which have been placed on out of state sales of large snake species. Breeders who usually breed a certain number of large snakes and then distribute them by shipping them out of state, are now being forced to sell all of their babies in state. I'm sure it's a lot more difficult to sell a good sized clutch of retics in your own state only.
In future years I'm guessing large snake breeders wills start catching on and drastically reduce or stop breeding their large snakes all together. It's an unfortunate result of the new legislation, and it means we're probably going to see most if not all of the large constrictor species disappear from the hobby all together, but in the meantime there are going to be a lot of homeless and unwanted baby snakes out there. Hopefully the majority of them can find responsible homes before they have to be euthanized.
Hopefully the BCC and BCI will manage to stay off the lists altogether.
