I See Snakes...
Our motley amel finally dropped her eggs a couple of days ago. No fuss no muss, thankfully, especially after what happened with Magnolia. Although, she did drop 2 of them outside of the laybox - for some odd reason - before going on to lay the other 7 inside the laybox. First time any of our females have done that, but I realize it happens sometimes.
Pebbles was paired up once with Obsidian (Anery het lavender motley) and the only reason we didn't put them together a second time was because he shocked my delicate sensibilities by being what I thought was obscenely aggressive. :eek1:
Some of you may remember seeing their picture posted:
Anyway, there was no lasting harm, and I suppose the biggest shock was that such a calm, mild mannered boy had that much of a wild side to him.
Here's a picture of Pebbles with her eggs:
Her eggs that were laid outside the laybox:
The two that were laid outside appeared to be fine, we happened to find them before they sat out in the dry aspen for too long, and of the seven laid inside the laybox, three of them appeared to be slugs - though they were the same size and color as the good eggs, they had a slimy feel to them. They are the shiny ones in the picture with Pebbles.
The eggs were dropped on the 22nd this month, and are expected to hatch around the 3rd of September. That leaves us with only one female left to lay her eggs, and we expect her to do so any day. Though, there is a possibility that she's not carrying - we never did see confirmation that the two hooked up, other than a rather small puddle after the deed was done. We'll have to wait and see, she had her pre-lay shed only a couple days after Pebbles, so, soon we'll know one way or the other.
