Moss?

Still Learning...
So just today I noticed that my snake might be about to shed. He hasn't shed with me yet (I haven't had him that long). So I put some of that "Humidifying Moss" from the pet store in his hide and he freaked out! He's roaming his tank looking very stressed out. Is he trying to tell me something? Is this moss going to harm him or is it just the new smell that hedoesnt like? And while I'm on the topic, does anyone have any tips for making it a good shed for him? Thank you!

If its Spaghnum moss, which it probably is, I wouldn't worry. It's not unusual for them to roam their viv rubbing their nose against anything in an attempt to start the shed. Getting the moss was a good idea that I'm sure he appreciates. You can also mist his viv to obtain a higher humidity level and provide a rough surface for him to begin to shed on (like a bleached rock or something). I also give my snake short baths towards the end of the cycle to help release the skin, which once actually resulted in her shedding in my hands! (Very exciting considering that it was her first shed in my time owning her. ;) ) If you do these things it should make for a very pleasant shed for him. Good luck!

She might have been freaking because you put the moss into her hide with her there. Place it in her viv in a seperate container so she can find it on her own. The misting thing really helps aswel, with my experiance I use coconut fibre and I mist it when they shed its one full pc.
