Moving 6 hours away....

I'm going to be moving about 6 hours away from my current location. What is the best way to transport my snake and his viv during the drive?

Do I:

- Keep him in his viv on the floor of my car?
- Keep him in a little plastic container with substrate?
- Other options? (Do I need to worry about the temperature getting too cold?)

Also, how many days should I feed him before the move?

Obviously, I want to stress him out as little as possible. :D

i say put in in a little plastic dish with a secure lid and some air holes and substrate put 2 rubber bands over it for more security. i would think u have to keep him in a dark place like put the dish in a box(just guessing) or get a plastic dish with out a see through lid. making it dark would simulate hiding and make him feel less stressed. good luck. :bounce: :bounce: :bird:

Whenever I must transport my snakes...I always put them in deli dishes with newspaper or paper towel in the bottom. And then I put them in a box. That way they are in a dark environment and in a safe location.

I would take all pieces out of his viv that might fall or move during transportation. Then put it back together when you get it where it belongs.

I agree with Charlie as for the method of transport, and I would not feed him for at least 48-72 hrs before the move.

How old is the snake??

I've transported snakes in a vehicle from North Carolina to Texas without mishap.

I personally wouldn't feed him for at least a week before transport. This gives the snake plenty of digestion time. I promise you'll know if "nature calls" while the snake is in the car.

Temps should be fine in the car, as long as the snake isn't parked directly under the heater. The rule of thumb I'd suggest is that if you are comfortable without a coat , the snake will be as well as well.

When you get settled, warm his enclosure up before dropping him in. Wait at least 3 days to handle him and then offer a smaller than normal meal for the first feeding.

Carefully wrapped pillow case will keep him from "seeing" whats going on and perhaps cut down on stress...

I've transported snakes ton's of time, you'll be ok as long as you avoid extreme temps...
