My 3rd ghetto rack...

Tula_Montage

It's Jager time!
I picked this unit up at ikea tonight, and I adore it. Cheap as chips, easy to assemble and you can build onto it as much as you like! I'm going to double it up (sideways) so it eventually has 10 shelfs and will hold all my adult corns and a couple of the boas. I have more than enough room to actually expand this the whole way along one of the walls, but thats a wee bit excessive LOL.

Most of the snakes are too small to be moved up to their adult boxes which is the 64ltr really useful box. This is the first ever unit I have been able to find which fits these perfectly. The size of each block in the stack is roughly the size of each box (including height).

I love the fact the shelfs are glass. All I have to do is look underneath to see where abouts the snakes are burried in the hemp, rather than digging them out.

Mr Sthnaily lives on the top shelf with Edward Scissorhands and all the hatchling boxes. He will need to move when I get round to switching everyone to adult tubs in the next few months. It will make the rack look much tidier as at the moment its a mixture of lots of different silly boxes! Trial and error though right? Each has it's ups and downs but my favourite brand has to be really useful boxes.

Heres what I accomplished in 3 hours tonight :) Theres more snakes to be moved in, and 3 corns are being moved up to their adult boxes.

Sadly it is nothing in comparison to the mamoth effort my partner went to make boa display "cages" for the livingroom. I wish I knew how to cut wood and stuff... I prefer to take the easy way out LOL!

I spot clean the younger snakes every few days and change their hemp bedding once every 6 weeks. With the boas, they poop perhaps once maybe twice a month and I don't need to clean as often.

I never leave poop in a box when I see it though... So I just clean whenever they have went.

A wee peek inside the 64ltr adult tub. Lacey is a 600 gram corn and shes got lots of room :) She makes the best use out of the climbing space. I much prefer boxes with height for corns which is why is has been so difficult to find a shelving unit big enough to hold these boxes.

Nice and neat!

I think it's funny how I look at a shelving unit or tupperware... and IMMEDIATELY evaluate just how it would work for my snakes. I'm glad I'm not the only one. :roflmao:

I do that ALLL the time. I can't walk into a furnature store without undressing their cabinets and wondering how I can make custom vivarium stacks LOL.

Great rack Elle! Ikea's awesome, I got a rug in there for my Mum's birthday for like £9, and it was a full size living room one too. :)

Just out of interest, where do you get all of your boxes from? Especially that big 64 litre one :)

All the best

David

Told ya I used those tubs too! I used to use them more, but I am replacing everything with really usefuls bit by bit.

I'll go through the rack:

Top shelf - Griet and Dior
Below that is Hal
Below that is Riviere
Below him is Noir
Bottom shelf is Beaux and blythe and ill be putting the new male there too.

Lacey has her own box not on the rack, but next to the rack.

Oh and wee Lavalle has his own wee faunarium in a special place :)

I'll be buying a stack of 3ft vivs to show off the likes of Panther, Lacey and Noir in the next few months and that will mean we can chop and change and swap some snakes ;)

The animals I have changes all the time, I'm currently stealing all the boids from my OH lol.

But yeah, he has the bigger stuff like 6ft Sweetpea and Brutus because he had the big display rack.

Hes already got me my valentines pressie... It's green and sits on sticks. LOL! Hes making me a display viv for a chondro :)

I quite like having the bigger stuff at his. I don't want to box up 5ft boas and huge corns like Panther :(
