and this is my ultimate darling, as you can see from my sig and avatar, missy, carolina corn, 8 years old, she hasnt been very well lately, she hasnt eaten for 4 months and shes has serious kidney problems, the medication shes on now should prevent it from turning into kidney failure, and we are also having to thread a tube down into her stomach twice a day to give her food suppliments. keep my fingers crossed for her.

hope you like them, i surely do, they are my pride and joy. my little darlings. :)

nope, it started off with what we thought was constipation but when they operated, they found a lump growing out the side of her kidney, which was blocking her bowels.
but shes had a pretty tough life, bless her, this was her third operation, the first two, she was egg-bound twice.
but it a vicious circle, she did have gout at some point through this, so with her kidneys, the gout and constipation she was in a bit of a state, but we thnk it was because of this lump on her kidney that was causing it all. she has a lump under her throat, which the vet says is a sign of kidney failure, but shes on lots of medication hopefully to prevent it turning into that. feel so sorry for her, am heartbroken, but the vet assures me that shes in no pain nor is she suffering. so fingers crossed for her.

How sad Missy. I wonder if she had the lump near the kidney when she had eggs, and if that in any way caused the egg-binding...

hmm megF, good point, however she was egg-bound in 2001 and 2002. good couple of years ago, i hope she never did have that lump for 2 years, im already beating myself up over this as it is. im starting to think im not taking care of them well enough, but she was the only one i never bought as a hatchling, with the other 4 they were 3-6 months old. she used to be problem eater when i first got her. and as she was operated on for both egg-binds, they would have seen it for sure if she did have the lump. you've made me think about my others now, maybe should get them all in for a check-up.

I don't think you can blame yourself. Many health issues show nothing unless it gets big, or you're specifically looking for it. Even if she had a small lump on her kidney before, the vet might not have noticed it as the egg binding issue would have seemed to have been the problem. It sounds like she has several health issues, and she may be one of those animals that had a poor genetic setup to begin with and is predisposed to disease. You can never tell. All your snakes look quite beautiful!
