my baby girl is dead

Was the snake a bloodred/albino.
Im kind of confused there.
Cause I've heard all sorts of things about bloodreds being hard to raise too. So it sounds like maybe those wouldn't be best for beginers....? I dunno

Anyway, sorry to hear about that. I just got a baby in november and if seether died. I'd have to get myself some anti depressent drugs. :) Especially if people where pointing fingers at me like that.

I hope you can overcome all this and get another snake. Im sure you will in time. And I wish your family or at least your mom where a little more senitive about this whole thing. Good luck and all.

I'm so sorry Sherry for your loss. There is nothing I can say to make it any easier. If you still have her by chance and can take her to the vet for a necropsy then maybe you can put your mind at ease if he can tell what caused it. I know it might be hard to think of replacing Slinky, but since you never know when you might find another special one, just clean the viv and have it ready. Maybe after your move you might find yourself unintentionally somewhere where a new special snake catches your eye again.

skinky real death

i did take her to the vet for a necropsy when i was thinking straight i relzedhold on the bedding in her mouth was to small for her to chock on cuz they eat a mouse bigger then them, so i took her to the vet i couldnt see her i couldnt bring myself to it they said she has a cist that had poisin in it and it exsploded thats what killed her they tested the liguid in the cist to no it was poisonous, they said she most likly got the bedding in her mouth when she was thrashing arround. i cried so hard , i bet it hurt her so much, my bsaby died a painful death. if she were to go i wish she didnt feel it and it was piecefull. they said were it was at.it was about 2 inches from her vent, wich is were a while ago i seen a big blue spot and it came and it went several times the vet i use to go to said it was her kidney. later i found out they wernt rep specialist so i swiched and she was suppose to go in for a check up yesterday, well she ouvously did make it just for a necropsy not a checkup.i feel better shes totaly out of pain but i feel horable knowing she died painfull. i am going to get another snake. i want two though a girl and a boy and i want them to be butters, but the questions have they been sick, is there any medically wrong with them have they upcucked how many times have they sheded and such will be asked this time with slinky i didnt know what i was doing this time i dont wanna have them die on me. im tired of all my animals being taken away i want a healthy one. even if i have to take them to the vet every day for a checkup. it exspecive but thats part of having a animal. i got repti bark it seems to be good, although i will still use coconut bedding since i now know thats not what caused her death. im in my own place and the lady says now i can have 2 snakes if i want, figures after mine dies and the other one is sold. i want one like slinky though i mean i know she was handles as a hatching she was calm she was slow in the hand she never bit she was a allarround sweety even when she was in pain. i dout theres one out there like her. if anyone has or knows someone that has to calm butters a male and a female, and they are healthy and everything ill buy them, its winter here so. thanks

Well, I am really sorry again. I would suggest if you are looking for new snakes to post it in the Corn Snakes Wanted forum of this site. Then anyone who is selling what you are looking for can respond to you and you can explain what you are looking for personality-wise. If you work with a good breeder from this site, they should be able to help you get the right temperment and such. Good luck to you.

Sherry, I'm really sorry about slinky. This is the first post I've read since I've been back, and I'm so sorry. I know how much you loved that little girl. I hope you have better luck with your butters when you get them.

I am very sorry for ur loss, but it was a good move getting rid of te sand. if the stuff was eco earth i dont think that killed her

Never posted before but I had to say something:

Sorry about your loss, that's terrible, that's one of the reasons I haven't gotten a corn snake yet, I get as attached to animals as people... I'd blame myself too if something happened, and fear I lack the skill to take care of one.... and though I have no idea what happened or even enough about snakes to tell you what happened, it seems the consensus is that the bedding couldn't have killed her so quickly...!?!

If heaven was devoid of pets, would it really be "paradise?" If there is something afterwards for humans, there must be for animals too... I plan on seeing my dogs that died again one day... hopefully you'll find Slinky again too...

I haven't visited the board in days, Sherry I am so sorry to hear what happened, I know it is too soon but I still have the ones you had emailed me about and it's not a butter but if you want an 04 female anery and can come pick her up, she's yours. I can send you or post a pic if you want, I think I live about 2 hours drive away (I'm in Marin)

Are you sure it was a painful death? Did you ask the vet? What kind of toxin was it, natural, created by her body or something foreign? Maybe she thrashed around for a few seconds and passed quickly!?!

Sorry again...

I so sorry to hear about the loss of your beautiful snake. I'm glad that you were able to find out why she died though so that you don't have to think it was something you did. I feel so bad for you that your mom blamed you for her death. It must have been very difficult. Reading the earlier posts, I figured it wasn't the bedding either as I have used shredded coconut without any trouble before. I hope you find a new snake soon so that you can have a new friend. Nothing is as special as your first one, but they each have something to teach.

Spirit, I'm female and Happy New Year. I am really just trying to downsize a bit, the snake I am offering Sherry is one I bred last year and since I acquired 9 snakes this year with various combinations and hets of ghost/motley/stripe which is what I was planning to focus on in the future, this girl needs a good home (she's het amel but no ghost or motley)

thanks you guys. im feeling a lot better and back on my feet and looking for more babies thanks so much

Hi Sherry

Here's a pic of the anery, with a ballpoint pen to give you an idea of her size I have both of her parents dad is normal het snow, mom is zig zag snow the babies always come out with some zig zag to the pattern (just behind the head on this one)

Frozen, all my snakes are eating frozen now, I tried the mouse colony thing and it didn't work out. This girl's eating three frozen pinks every five days and is ready for fuzzies

 Sherry, sorry to hear about your loss. Just this past Friday I lost my only cornsnake, Checkers(R.I.P.), and it was more than a shock to me. He was also a Bloodred Amel. and the perfect color cuz he wasn't too dark or too dark. He had a burgandy and peachish-orange color to him. Your picture of your "Slinky" is like seeing a ghost immediately as I entered this post. Checkers(R.I.P) looked almost exactly like that. Anyway, I'm a man and I definately don't cry easily but this was one occasion when it wasn't something I could control. I came home from school ready for the weekend and went upstairs to play with my bay boy when I found him laying in the middle of his cage, unmoving. Usually if he's still, it's in his hide log or by his water bowl or up on his vine. So I put my finger against the glass nearby him since this usually gets his attention. He didn't move so I tapped the glass. Still no response. I reached into the tank and about started crying immediately when I picked him up and he just fell limp. I cried for hours on end and fell asleep crying on my bed. Later I dug a hole in my yard adn buried him with a small cherub figure over his grave. When I got him out of his cage I noticed that around where his heart or other organs would be it turned a bright green and his beautifully colored eyes were sunken into his head and his head was looking back as if he had felt a pain before he died.

I saw in an earlier post that someone's corn had died from kidney disesase. How did they know that's what it was? Did it take long to show signs of or was it all of a sudden? Checkers(R.I.P.) was only around 4 1/2 months old when he died. Is it possible for a snake to have a heart attack? Any help would be appreciated. To anyone else reading, make sure you take plenty of pictures of your babies because you never know when they'll be gone. I never got around to taking some pictures of my little boy and I interacting and the only pictures i have now are the ones after his death of him because I just needed that memory of him being with me. Also, Checkers(R.I.P.) sister is still at the pet store where I purchased him. Do you think it a good idea to go and buy her before she's gone or do you think her life will be short-lived as his was? HELP!!!!!!!!
