I want to go in that field and look for snakes!!!
Actually, you wouldn't. Sugarcane fields are pretty much a biological wasteland. There are mice, but not as many as you'd think by a LONG shots. Snakes? Not many at all - maybe a few SPARSE speckled kingsnakes and cottonmouths near the edges, but that's it. Sugarcane fields are not the best place to herp. Sure, you see a lot when harvesting, but that's only because of the MASSIVE amount of area covered in a short amount of time AND the disturbance to the habitats. Visual encounter searches are very, very unproductive. head to the wooded areas adjacent to cane fields to find beaucoup herps!
