My Beautiful Louisiana

Gamaliel's Principle
I was cleaning house this weekend, and came across some picture albums. The photographs that follow are of Nottoway Plantation in Iberville Parish, just across the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge, where I live. It is the largest remaining standing plantation house in the nation. You can look at me and my mom to get an idea of the size.
There are beautiful plantation houses on both sides of the river from Natchez, Mississippi all the way down to New Orleans. Many are well known, including the Houmas House, where the movie "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte" was filmed, with Bette Davis and Olivia de Havilland.

Sugar Cane fields on Nottoway Plantation. About a week before harvest (in early October).
One might say my mother and I are both outstanding in our fields. :D ;)

Is that YOUR hoose?
No darlin'. But I wish it was. :D

But....if it was, there would be plenty of room for all my friends and all their herps. A wonderful winter home for everyone in the cold cold latitudes. No? Plenty of room for Dale and all his critters and all of us to look after him.

Thanks for sharing.
Being in the trade....I long to tour old building but ...I like also look at the basements, attic and roof tops. Which they don'tlet you do..But nice picture.

Oh ,,,thank for the close up pic too.

What an amazing house! And wonderful pictures... too bad we can't see more of you! Your mom looks like a lovely woman!

Great pics, Eric! I'd love to tour those houses as well.

As for the sugar cane fields... brings back memories of Hawaii to me... but the plantations in Hawaii are all but shut-down these days.

Now I could sit out there, in my rocking chair, with a nice tall bourbon and watch the world go by....
Anyone fancy joining me????

Nanci I was thinking the same thing, lol!! Great pictures Eric now I know why you lick your snakes SWEEEEET!!!

Ooooh, Eric! I could just weep looking at that house! *sniff* Someday I AM going to Louisiana to follow my families roots. Matt's promised me that we'll save up enough money so I can go and see all those houses and tour the cemeteries.

I'd love too. Except make mine rum.
Beautiful plantation home Eric. We all could sit on the veranda, sip our drinks and watch the world go by from the looks of it...lol
Thanks very much for sharing those pics with us.

Beautiful pictures/houses/mom/you etc., Eric!! :p

My grandmother was from Mississippi (Kosciusko to be exact) but used to take trips out to Natchez, and talked about it all the time... I keep wanting to get out there!

Thanks for sharing!
