Very nice! I have a similar one I made out of melamine, but yours looks sturdier. Those tubs are great for adult corns and rats.
 
That's awesome! I wish I was handy enough to make a DIY rack, but I rely on Animal Plastics.

I'm very impressed with people who can make their own racks! Yours is absolutely beautiful. Great job with the black finish. It looks very professional. I would love a 41qt tub rack! Would you consider commissioning one? I just noticed where you live... ;)
 
I would absolutely love to help you out if we could find a way to work it out. I'm not gonna lie though, it looks better in photos ;)
Also, you really don't have to be handy to do this! It was really simple (well - I had to do some trial and error), the first thing I've ever built and the only thing you really need is a good drill. Home Depot will cut everything for you for free as long as you tell them the measurements. I'd be happy to tell you exactly how to do it if you wanted to attempt it yourself!
 
My Dad is real handy, so perhaps we could work on something together as a "father daughter" thing.

Seriously though I'd love to see your "plans" for something like this. I've always wanted to make a DIY rack, but I'm too intimidated. I'm not as good with wood as my dad is!
 
I really like that; looks like the tubs slide out the way I would need them to, to fit in my closet. o_O

I recently have made a few racks with a friend, a local breeder. While they don't look as "nice" as an AP rack, but they're sturdier, & I actually like them better than my AP rack.
I'm actually considering replacing my AP rack with one of th ehome made ones, & selling the AP rack...IDK, we'll see :)
 
I must say it looks really nice, the thing i love about DIY is its much more rewarding when it come out well, and with simple things like this all it takes, as you said, is time and some trail and error! I would much rather build a hide for my corn then purchase an overpriced 35 dollar small hide from a store near here. I built one out of popsicle sticks and hot glue and it came out very nice imo and the wood hide has a lot of character as well!
 
Looks great! I would run a 1x2 or 1x4 vertically along the back of it, fastened to each shelf all the way to the floor to help prevent sagging. Other than that great job!
 
Well, I started out just kindof eyeballing the shelves... like I stacked them on top of the container and then just drilled it into place. Obviously, that's just a stupid idea ;) So then I disassembled it and measured all the shelves. Much better. Also, I screwed the shelves in from the wrong side. Not a big deal, but going from the inside out makes it much more stable.
 
I used flexwatt heat tape (I got mine from "The Bean Farm" online). Just wired it and taped it to the shelves with electricians tape. Was much easier than I expected :)
 
Nice job! I've made two racks for 41 qt from melamine and same as you, it was a learning experience. I made the 1st one like you displayed using the tubs to rest the shelves on. I ended up having to readjust because the weight of the shelves compressed the tubs and they ended up too tight. For the second one, I cut 4 peices of wood to the exact height I wanted and placed them in the four corners for the shelf to rest on...perfect fit!

I like the 41 qt much better. Only time I use 32 qt any more is to brumate.
