His tail is curled up under the banister in that picture. His tail is stubbier than a corn snakes.

I haven't had him sexed. I only guess him to be male because the first day I got him he musked on me and opened up his cloaca real wide and out popped two red things which I assumed was his hemipenis. I thought they were too long for sent glands. But until he's probed you never know. Jormi might be a girl lol.

If it helps I counted 64 or 65 scales after the vent (depending one which one you start with). I read that in kings this would mean male.

46–63 subcaudal scales in males
44–57 subcaudal scales in females

He's nice in brown, too. I really like that look. I think the ones with 2 stripes look really nice, a little more "stripey", but the solid back looks better.
 
I had never seen a striped cali king like him before. I always seen the ones with two stripes or the reverse ones that are white with a thin black stripe down the back.

He actually has two tiny spots on his back which is where the white stripe would have been. I guess that through selective breeding they have reduced the white stripe until it isn't there anymore?
 
Dunno, but that's what I figured also. Breed the ones with the widest stripes until you get some that join.
 
As for musking...as far as I know, the hemipenes would not be exposed during a musk. They empty their cloacal contents, and often some of the intestinal material will be visible, but the hemipenes are located below the cloaca, in the tail. There really isn't any reason for them to be everted during musking, since the musk comes from the intestinal area, above the cloaca.

This is a wild Cali musking. Notice the bright red intestinal material being shown is coming from above the cloaca, not below it, where the hemipenes would be located.

I emailed Brian Hubbs. I didn't expect a reply but I got one shortly after I sent my email. He asked for some pictures of my snake and he told me a few things about him.

I took several pictures of Jormungand's tail at different angles and Brian thinks that he is a male. He also told me that Jormungand's morph is Mosaic Chocolate Top.

Pretty neat. I plan on buying his book. ;)

The dude knows what he is talking about, for sure. He has more info about kingsnakes of the getula complex than anyone I've spoken to, and his knowledge about mountain kings is simply unsurpassed. He's a really nice guy, too...
 
A Banner?

I took some pictures of Jormungandr today and decided to play with it in photoshop. I didn't change the colors at all. He just appears more green when I use the camera flash.

Anyway I threw together a banner. For what purpose? I have no idea lol!

Thanks. I was thinking about putting him on my credit card. My mom put our Turkish Angora cat on her card lol.

I think I have more picture of him than any of my other snakes because he is so well behaved now! When I got him I would have never believed he could be so good. He is still a bit of a psycho during feeding time. Have to be fast and watch your fingers :p
 
A Little Update

Just a little bit of an update on my Jormungandr.

I sent him off this past November to WI on a breeding loan. Yesterday was their first pairing and my little guy was all for it.

I still think Jormungandr is a hottie in the snake world! His girlfriend looks a lot like him, great you found one like him! Do you know if they will produce lookalikes or does this pattern inherit randomly, like with Aztecs?
 
I have no idea and it will be fun to see. The look he has seems to be connected to the mosaic look from what I've read. There is really very little information. So we will see if it is random or not hopefully when the eggs hatch.
