It's been a while and I thought I should update on my breeding loans. I wish I had saved pictures of the first clutch of babies. But I didn't. I only have one with a few of them fresh out of the egg.
Jormungandr x Glockenspiel:
Six eggs were laid last May. Three babies came out looking like Jormungandr and three came out broken striped like Glockenspiel. One striped baby was more of a mosaic stripe. Only one female in the entire clutch and she had a partial black belly.
After the breeding loan with Aubrey, my little guy got sent to Ohio to Deb Morgan. She posted earlier in this thread hinting at a breeding loan and after seeing a post on faunaclassifieds.com I decided to contact her.
Because Jormungandr was in Wisconsin at the time, when he was finished there and sent to Ohio it was a little late in the season and his new girlfriend, Daytona wasn't in the mood anymore. So, he got to stay in Ohio until the next season which was this year!
Daytona looks exactly like Jormungandr except for she has a black belly.
Jormungandr x Daytona:
We got 11 eggs. Seven look like their parents. Three are striped and one is mosaic! This clutch has more of a mixture of male and female. My female keeper is the only black belly in the bunch.
These pictures were taken by Deb. I only shared my two keepers and the mosaic to represent the different patterns we got in this clutch.
So, it is obvious that this is a sort of co-dom gene. However our snakes must also carry the genes for stripe and mosaic. Both of which I'm not 100% sure how they work. I thought those were also co-dom genes. I'm really not sure.
Anyone that understands kingsnake genes more that could shed some light?
