Could always return it and get a 20 long. Any store should allow you to do that if you explain the reason.

Petco sells the critter keeper style cages with locking, sliding screen lids for $45 for the 20-long size. You could keep your snake in that for quite some time, so would be worth the price.
 
well we got the tank for free of some site called freecycle or sumthing like that so i cant take it there cause i got no reciet

I disagree. You can keep a corn in a 20 long it's entire life, not just for quite some time. A 20l is plenty big enough for a 3.5-5 foot snake.
 
You'd probably be able to get a fairly cheap 20 gallon long tank at your local pet store. I got a bunch for $10 each, and made my own lids. While this isn't recommended unless you're sure you can make it secure, I'm sure they sell lids for fairly cheap too. And heck, you might as well get a fish to fill up that other tank too :p

Yes, I know 20l is considered good for the entire life of the snake. However, I wouldn't cram a 5 ft. snake into one, personally. If one has the ability to give more space, might as well. But what I meant by quite some time is that he'd not ever really have to worry about it, unless the snake seems cramped or he felt the need to upgrade to a larger one. :) That is what we are doing. The snake will stay in the 20l until she's an adult. Gives me time to save up for a really nice, large enclosure!
 
Does anyone know the Math for converting Feet and Inches into Gallons, my main viv is 36 inches long by 18 inches high and 18 inches wide, (36 x18"x18")It isn't really a measure we use in the UK. Thanks for any help :)
 
The volume can be calculated by multiplying the length (in feet) by the width (in feet) by the average depth (in feet) by 7.5; the answer being total gallons.

So yours would be 3 x 1.5 x 1.5 x 7.5 = 50.625 gallons
 
Thanks for the calculation CornCrazy, i wondered if their was an easy way of converting, instead of just "approxamating".
