Well I went over to a buddys house last night to show him my gun that I just refinished (the stock not the whole gun) and when I was over there talking and hanging out his wife asks me, " Hey do you know any one who would want copper (their 5 month old Blood hound/German Short haired Pointer)?" . So I asked her why and they said they are thinking about moving in a year or two back down to Arkansas and that they are sure they wont be able to bring him and they would rather find him a good home before hes is full grown. Well me and my wife had talked about getting another big dog but hadnt really tried to look to hard, also I wanted a dog I could use as a hunting dog and having both blood hound and GSHP would make him great at that. He was already house broken and obeys well. They were also afraid that when they move there now 3 year old ( 5 or 6 then) will be to attatched to the dog and would be very upset. So After talking to my wife We went ahead and took him. I have known this dog since he was 8 weeks old when they got him so its not like im getting a strange dog, I have actually been around him a good bit.


Any way This is copper (named after the hound on Fox and the Hound, how ever....you can tell by his color is isnt copper lol) the 5 month old puppy.

He is great with the kids too, he is not snappy at all. As a matter of fact I let him out back last night to go potty and it took 5 times before he would go because my goose was over there honking because she heard me step outside and he was to afraid of the goose to go potty :grin01: and then this morning when I let him out the chickens were out in there little yard and same thing, he saw them and "chickened" out haha. Over the day though he has gotten use to them and is scared to go out and go potty lol.
 
He is a sweet dog. I have been wanting a dog I could take Rabbit hunting and out with me when I go fishing and I think he will be good for either. With his nose he should be a great hunting dog and his attitude and temperament he makes for a good companion so when I cant get any buddies to go I can always take the dog lol. I have tried to take bruce my other dog but he is so hyper and hard headed he doesnt listen well in new environment so I cant really take him out to much because where I go fishing he cant be on a leash because of the terrain (lots of roots and swampy spots and thick bushes most often) so I need a dog that will listen well. I love bruce but he just isnt good at that, and he loves to run off. He has truly been the hardest dog to train I have ever had lol. But He isnt going any where as hard headed as he is I still love him. But I think Copper will be better for hunting and fishing and is much more mild mannered.

ya im curios to see which side he takes after. He is normally very quiet I have only heard him bowl out just 2 times and that was when he was playing with another dog. Last night when him and bruce were playing he didnt make a sound, meen while bruce was growling and barking and just having a blast Copper didnt make a sound, he woudl snap back playing around but never made a sound. It would be awsome if he had the nose of the blood hound but pointed like the pointer!

And sorry about the house being a mess in the background, I was busy all day and was so excited I forgot to vacuum and sweep before I took pictures haha. That rug is one of those rugs you can vacuum it then 10 minutes later you couldnt tell. I swear its a magnate for any thing on the floor to gravitate too.
 
Thanks Jdog, He has had 2 accidents in the house :( He doesnt wine at the door so there is no warning. Ever time he wines though He goes outside, im trying to get him use to when he wines he knows he goes outside to go potty. Hes a big baby though lol, atm he is sitting next to my son with his big floppy ears in my sons lap haha.
 
He's very pretty! I love his floppy ears. I've done the Alaska to Arkansas move... caution your friends. AK is SO much better than AR!! ;)
 
haha, well he is actually from AR, he moved up here about 8 years ago with his parants. I think he misses his family. His Mom and dad moved back out of state so its just him and his wife and kids and then his brother and his family. After he went down on vacation he is talking about moving back, I think its his family he misses.
 
I can understand wanting to be with family. That's why Mom and I moved down here... the majority of her family lives here, including my sister. My only problem with Alaska is that it's so cut off from the lower 48; if you want to visit someone down here you have to either drive down through Canada (which is a LONG drive - that's how Mom and I moved out of state) or pay out the ears for a plane/ferry ticket. :(

If it were just me, I wouldn't mind that so much. But my husband would essentially be cut off from his family in North Carolina. So it looks like me ever moving home isn't going to happen. And I really want to see the rebuilt Taco Bell!! Maybe you could take a picture for your homesick friend. ;)
 
I will try to get some pics, Im actually driving to GLenn allen today so when I pass through wasilla if I remember I will get some pics.
 
Well I ended up going up to Glenn Allen and Forgot to get some pics of it lol, but I got some good mountain pictures. In a bit I will upload them and post them on the other thread I started "Some Local Pictures."
