A trip around underground!

Underground is a snake shop near me. i headed off there after going to "ben's" a cheaper snake shop. but sadly they had nothing i liked. So i walk in to underground and today was feeding day for a few of there deadly snakes. as i watched under the table to see all the small babies. as i got up to look around and whats one eating...A Corn snake :eek1:. the guy said can i help you?. and i wanted to freaked out seeing a snow be thrown in to the other snakes tank. i said "Yeah got any candy cane corns"

I couldn't believe this guy had the **** to hand me a BLOOD RED and tell me it was a candy cane. surly he wanted me to buy it it was way over priced for 250. i said no thanks as another larger corn was being thrown in. "What about snows got any snows?!?" and he said "Nope." i turned to him and pointed to a small baby that was going in to another snake cage as food "That one what about that one!" he jacked up the price to 90 bucks. and said sure.

Poor little one was going to be killed. his sister/brother i couldn't save . but at lest i got him. his really sweet and am still not sure if it even is a snow. but am GLAD he didn't become cobra food!

yeah i was waiting about 5 months to get a candy cane corn snake today. But i couldn't just sit there and watch this guy throw the other corn snakes in like that. so now i have a snow. am still glad i saved him. sadly i couldn't save the larger snow that was $180. and i had to pick between the one i got or his sister. ) : Means am not getting a candy cane corn snake. but at lest i saved this little guy.

ugh $180 is waayyyy over priced expecially for a snow. Candy canes are hard to come by :( but this little snow is beautiful

Underground Reptiles? I loved going to that shop. They had a whole section of Old World Rat Snakes... I take it Ben's, is Ben Siegals? There are three other ones that I visited while my company paid me $.40 a mile to help out one of our offices down there... My favorite was close to the job, in Weston, can't think of the name though, but they had a huge community incubator where people would drop off their snake and gecko eggs and would get back half the clutch when they hatched... thought if I ever opened a shop, I was going to have one of those... Glad you found one you liked

yup thats the places!
Ok, yeah, $90 is a bit steep for a hatchling Snow, that was purchased by them as a feeder, but the satisfaction of picking out the one you want, and saving it, will be priceless whenever you tell the story in the future. So, gonna name it Hors Derve, Derve for short? :grin01:

yeah he didn't say they where feeder a few weeks before i heard some coworker saying how if some don't sell they feed them to the other snakes. I thought they where JOKING but as soon as i saw the other snake in the other snakes tank as food. i had to try and save them. even though am some what disappointing in me that i pasted up more waiting for a red candy corn. i am glad i can know that i saved this snow. and he we have a awesome life for a longtime. to think his little life could have ended today.

yup i knew about them i was planning to go up there maybe sometime in a few weeks. but i just couldn't watch the snow die. ) : maybe i can get another corn snake in a few months. but thats unlikely.

That was really sweet of you! Also, this corn proves to be worth the save, he/she is gorgeous. I love the head. Bah, who needs a candy cane corn when you've got one drop dead gorgeous snow :grin01:?

its a he, and he is really sweet my other corn is in shed so she being a brate lol. but he is really calm i really have to say i found a new heart for snows. they are really pretty.

He's a pretty little guy- thanks for saving him! I was unaware that baby corns were sold as feeders- that kind of disgusts me.

What happened to your googly-eyed baby?

You did a good thing. I gave up what I wanted too to make room for a rescue snake, and I can tell you I've never once regretted it. I'm sure you won't either.

Cute little snow!

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why were they feeding the cobras cornsnakes? Wouldn't that rather be expensive to say the least? :shrugs:

yes it was a bit gross hearing that they even use corn snakes as feeders. even though i know it was a deadly snake. some kind of viper or corba. pretty sick to watch. the snake that they where feeding was about over 1k. one guy said that zoo's buy them more then breeders do. as for my other white rat snake Nanci. I gave it to one of my friends and she fell inlove with the little guy as it was chopping down on her arm. she has 2 ball pythons and one tree boa. so am pretty sure she can handle him.

also the shop is pretty huge and they sell more then just reptiles they sell monkeys and even Foxes. and other very very high priced pets. well over 3k for a ring tailed lemur. so am sure giving the cobra's and other snakes. over priced corn snakes as food to them is no big deal. but too me its a bit sick. i wish they could just feed them mice..

That was a great thing you did there, I'm sure the satisfaction of saving a beautiful snake will long outlast getting the type that you preferred. But I can't believe they sell monkeys and Ring-Tailed Lemur's, that's just wrong. I'm strongly against keeping highly active and sociable creatures in solitary confinement.
