My store makes me angry....

Well, apparently my store manager heard that I want to take this little rat home and that us sending her off to animal control was making me upset. She wants to talk to me when she comes back to work, right now she is visiting family out of state. But, one of my other managers, the one who told the store manager, says that she thinks I will be able to get the little rat. If I do, I will be posting pictures of her, and the one that I get as her friend. And, their temporary home until I can get the wire to make them a better place.

Where in the world would a rat pick up rabies in a pet shop? That would be my first question LOL

Sometimes it amazes me how uninformed people can be, specially when they're supposed to be someone the public turns to for advice on their new fuzzy/scaley/winged friends. I guess your manager doesn't understand the importance of being fully educated and up to date on all their information.

I'm glad that she wants to talk to you about potentially bringing the rat home :)

Hope you get to keep her! I'm kind of jealous over here, I miss my ratties!! <:3( )~~~

I think the problem stems from a few years ago. The old manager did not keep the associates in line and did not make sure that they were doing their job right. The store got infested with "pet" rats. There were a whole lot of escapee's and they had a whole lot of babies... I guess she doesn't want to chance a wild rat being in the store and giving the little rat some sort of issue...
I do not know if it is possible for the above situation to happen with wild rats and pet rats, and it is pure speculation on my part...

Oh it can happen. There have been a few people on ratsrule.com that have had half wild rats as pets. They are the same species, but due to the thousands of generations in captivity domesticated rats are MUCH different. A study was done (can't remember by who though) that proved out that wild rats and domesticated rats process information differently.

Hmmmm... sounds like it's time for a speaker to come in who's well learned in the animal field. Educationals are a great way to provide everyone with what's the latest in the field, and would be the perfect way to maybe open your managers eyes to see that what you're saying isn't just some made up "facts" that you're using to sway her thoughts. It could be a fun event for all employees and members of management too! :D

Just a thought though :)
