My turn! SpiritSerpents 2014 season thread.

My very very firstest clutch for this year decided to go and start hatching while I was camping. I was obsessed with the thought that I was missing everything so my trip was not as relaxing as it could have been. Fortunately, only 5 babies out of 14 had emerged by the time I got home.

I knew from the first pip that Notlee (my amel notley) was het for anery. But I had a whole other surprise waiting for me today.

First, some noses.

So I was pulling a few of the babies out, to see if they had any aberrant patterning like their momma, when I saw this little worm. (Sorry for the crappy pictures, I'm massively sunburned and tired)

And I thought to myself "Well, not a notley, but those neck saddles sure are connected a long way down. Nifty!"

Then I turned it over and....

Completely clear belly. We have a motley! It's not the greatest example ever, but it's a motley all right. I've 3 mots out of the 5 hatchlings so far. Super duper excited/pleased!

Two more babies are out, both little amels. One seriously looked like a motley for the first bit of the snake, but I think s/he failed to live up to that promise as he's got a decent number of checkers, though not terribly many. :p

Then this little one decided to exit its egg and head... straight for ME! It was stretching way out of the bin so I held out a single finger and... well... :3 *lurve*

It's also very red compared to its siblings. It should be quite a looker.

Maybe Notlee's appearance is the het showing through? Is there any evidence that het motleys tend to have motley-like patterns? Or, since you are getting about a 50/50 ratio, maybe she is HOMO motley? I think you've said in other posts her belly has normal checkers though, right?

Beautiful babies. Love that last pic.

We need a pic of Liar Pants's belly. Cuz, you know, we just need more pics of cute baby snakes!

Wait until you see the one that came out last night. She'll probably match her daddy in his sunglow/sunlog-ness.

Last one is out, and it's a much more classic motley than any of its motley sibs. I've 3 'for sures', a pile of "You have 1/3 or fewer of the checkers you should have" that all start off looking like motleys for the dorsal patterning, and a couple fully checkered babies. Very very odd results.

This little one is one of the 'for sures' and has some of the strongest patterning (the snow motley might be better).

My camera is also making these guys *really* orange instead of the reds they are. A little aggravating.

My 50 Shades of Gray clutch finally decided to pip this morning, a week after they were due. And the first nose is..........!

I don't think it's quite pale enough to be all 4 genes at once.

Haha, the "rules" are right. Second clutch laid yesterday, pippies today. Congrats!

With those eyebrows, it's got to have charcoal in there somewhere, right? Cuteness!

...and I'll definitely need help with the second batch. XD

Sooooo... I ... er... think I may have hit the 1:64 odds with that baby.... Phantom Moonstone, or should we label this a Bansidhe?

Eee, could it be? Also, egg toofers are too cute.

Also also, I like the name Bansidhe. *votes yes*
